I have just had such a wonderful customer service experience with Morelock's Organ Parts that i just had to blog about it.

See, Monday i had a wonderful find. I bought a WurliTzer Electric Piano from a guy who initially thought that it was just a big suitcase. I got a great deal on a Model 112 electric piano that says it was made on August 4 1955 inside. This is the same model that Ray Charles used for "What I'd Say" and other tunes..
And the cool thing is not the find but the fact that this piano is in CHERRY cosmetic condition. You can't tell from the photo but it is in the original brick-brown-red-white speckle finish and doesn't have a single mark on it. The legs are flawless and were held in by the original thin weak canvas strap. The decal is still shiny after 52 years!!
So when i took it home I wasn't too disappointed to find out that it was out of tune. This isn't so bad since almost all wurlies are out of tuen, since you have to tune them with a soldering iron.
But i was a little concerned that the amp did hum a little and like any electric piano, it had a few broken tines/reeds inside. So i figured that i had some work to do.
I spent a little time online doing research and found two places that did carry extra reeds for wurlies. One had a good webpage but was charging $20 for each reed. since i needed 4 reeds i wasn't liking the idea.
So even though they had a pretty minimal webpage with no prices, i gave a phone call to Morelock's Organ Parts instead.
The woman who answered the phone was a DELIGHT to deal with. She was charming, gave me free advice on tracing down the hum, listed to the story of my find and was an all around great person to deal with. And she sold me all 4 reeds for about the price of one reed from the other place.....
So here it is Wednesday and the Reeds are here already!!!!!
This has got to be the BEST experience i have had with a mail order anything in my life!!
Damn! Don't you wish Synthesizer companies were like this?
MORELOCK's you are the BEST!!

I thought it would be about some new fantasy franchise "the evil Morelocks!". Wurly is good clean fun too though.

cool. my friend i make music with recently bought a wurlitzer electric piano. i love it, it has a lot more bite than my rhodes (which i also love). he bought it from a friend, i was there when he bought it and was clearly told to play gentle on it as the reeds on a wurly will break if you play heavy at all.
so my friend calls me up later than night and is like "man i love this thing, it sounds SOO GOOD, i got really into playing it and broke some reeds".
i'm and not sure which ones he needs but he has been having trouble finding them online. he ran into the same thing you did where they were way too much each, or at the reasonable places they didn't have the ones he needs.
anyways, thanks for this blog i'm going to have him call morelocks. maybe they will have what he needs.

Hey Fredo, i got it at one of my flea markets. Here in Rhode Island we have a great junking/garage sale culture. Combine that with a lot of artist types and a lot of transitional college students and you get quite a few deals. The only downside is that the used stores, junk shops and flea markets don't really advertise so sometimes i discover one that has been going on for ten years right under my nose w/o me finding it until that day.
Has anyone else noticed that since eBay has started upping their fees that the yard sale market has gone crazy? prices and items are all over the place low and high. I think it is because no one can depend on eBay to give them an idea of what something is worth anymore.
As for your friend, ejectorset, I completely understand how someone can get carried away. The action on the 200 models is especially firm that way. Almost as bad as a clavinet. Lucky for me i have the 112 model. The action on these is unique in that it is more like a real piano and you're less likely to break reeds. Also the amplifier is a tube amp so you get a fuller sound without needing to hit the key harder to get that twang everyone loves. The downside is that this model lacks the vibrato and is MUCHO heavier.
Morelock's website says they are having some shortages of reeds for the 200 model which figures since that is the most popular model, but for now they seem to have good workarounds for almost everything.

I also had mine serviced by an organ repairman in Nashville- he was fantastic. I also got to meet Buddy Emmons, the foremost steel guitar player in the world, while I was over shooting the shit with the guy.
These smaller scale, older music shops and techs are SO much better to work for. They are my role models- if I ever start any kind of business it'll be handled like theirs.
