--> Hello all

Just found a few pics from our old bedroom studio back in 1998. not very exciting AT ALL, hehe.

But, there are a few things i noticed we used that I don't have anymore. such as a fostex reel to reel 8 track recorder (it's kinda hard to see but it's at the top of the shelf thing, very low lighting).

When using MIDI, we were using the ATARI sequencer and running a very early version of cubase. the atari was very old, and used. so it would die randomly at any given time, but after restarting, it would always go back to normal.

Our main keyboards at the time were the yamaha CS1x and the Yamaha DX100.

Low budget fx processors included a very old roland reverb/delay unit (it's the fx rack under the atari keyboard). also, a digitech digital delay rack (which is angled up against the mixer).

Under the mixer is a alesis quadrasynth rack which we were able to borrow for a little bit. also pictured is a dr202 drum machine atop the record player.

The picture with the cables is the snake of cables that ran into the fostex 8 track. behind the cables (even though the picture sucks and is blurry) you can see (sort of) a Mettel Electronics Synsonics Drum pad. never really used it, but when i did i always got a good laugh. especially when running it threw distortion.

cs1-x was my first synth! brings back memories.

Nice!!!
that's awesome ignatius.

yea, you gotta love that blue thing that is the cs1x. for the late 90's, and not a lot of $$$, it did the job quite well.
especially the 6 kobs. at that time i had not yet been able to play with a synth that had tweakable kobs. so the cs1x was a great learning tool for me.

it was good for me too. it made learning matrix programing interfaces a breeze later on.. like evolver, waldorf stuff. i used the shit out of it. it's on so many of my early tracks and i still have a bunch of recordings/samples of weird FX jam outs w/the arpegiator

love hte hgue speakers!

ignatius: hellz yea, i fully agree. i used to go nuts with the arpegiator on that thing as well. now that i think of it, the on board fx processor was pretty dope as well (again, especially regarding the price). but yes, an excellent starting synth indeed.

jdg: !!! i love those speakers. they had amazing low end and nice clear sound.

wow, 4-way retro speakers! cs1x was the first synth i used as well, i guess it's like a gobal standard

DrexonField do you have any music from that period that you want to share?

delete: thanks!
at the moment i don't have any of my material from that time period up. but i'll be sure to post something soon.

The DX100 is so cute!
looks fun.

my setup always look ed the same. besides the monitors and screens changed. but it has always only been a puter or two. maybe a midi keyboard. that's it.

in 1998 i only had an alesis sr16 and an old hifi

" ATARI sequencer running a very early version of cubase", this brings sweet memories.. I had a 1040st, used it 2 years everyday, never had a crash, those where the days..

i think the atari's still have the best midi timing.

Totally!!! the atari's without a doubt had amazing timing.I used to sequence drum patterns and be so happy with the result, then i did the same on a new PC later that year and had horrible results. the atari was such an amazing thing to use for getting started in MIDI. and yes, it almost never crashed, only once and a while and that was because it had already seen alot of use by the previous owner.

I never had the balls to put a guitar strap on my dx100, hehe

i actually also own a korg poly 800 which also has the guitar strap pegs. i never realized how surrounded i am by possible keytars. aughhhhh!!!!

Woo Atari! I still have an upgraded 520ST in my garage, with my old MasterTracks Pro and MIDI files on it... heh.

sweeeeeet
