I propose a 'wind on string' drone for your next excursion.
Allow me to explain... I have an overdrive distortion with a 12AX7 in it and it takes some 5-10 mins to warm up, so I sat my guitar down plugged and with amp on by my window. I begin to hear this very low, barely audible harmonic resonance coming from my bedroom and wonder "wtf is that?" sos I walk in and find that the wind is blowing in my window and subtley vibrating the strings upon my telecaster. The compressor made it sustain, the tubey overdrive made it sing... I wondered... is this a ricemutt moment??? ...Drone on, friend.

dude that sounds rad! i love a good drone while i'm working and love the drone of an amped guitar. if you've seen the Atom Egoyan film "The Sweet Hereafter" they used that sound in a short scene that I thought was just brilliant. The lead (ian holm) walks into a strange building trying to find someone and tell them his car is stuck in their carwash. all you hear is this Reeeeeewwwwwooooooorrrrrrrrrrr...and you get a little nervous. Then, he walks by an amped guitar.
i wonder if a quiet fan at different speeds could produce some neat results.

hahaha, that sounds great! it's a windy day out here, I wish I could try. But the only electric guitar I have is a total piece of shit and I don't have an amplifier! But maybe I could stick my classical guitar by the window and shove a mic in its face. It would be cool to see how the guitar droned differently with different tunings and different string tensions. That's a great idea, i'll have to see what I can do for you :p
heh heh you might be right there jdg... maybe I should hire writer. hey, I got big points for naming "for elisa" what I did. After all, we're married now ;).

seriously tho, mixedtaper - I forgot to mention the advent of teh BOX FAN, thats where its at. blowing on strings with sensitive overdrives and fuzz would do it right. Process too ricey, with all your patches and effects!
