Wow, these are great... how did you make them?

agreed, awesome audio and visuals. curious as well about your process and tools used.

i like that funky bit with the bass player as well. some great beats in these songs also as well as the more noise/ambient pieces. what a great mix of sounds!

I really want to do some audio-visual work, but I'm not sure where to start. Did you manipulate this set live? Is there some sort of VST I can get for syncing video clips to midi? I use live and am aware that I can drop clips into it, is this effective for live performance though?

glad you like guys!
I'm using a 2 laptops system, one for the audio running Max/msp and Live, the other running Isadora. I'm sending audio and midi from Live to Isadora so to activate-deactivate many things (layers - video fx etc..). Max is mainly used to handle Live in an usual way, a bit more creative than the ordinary - so it is a bit more fun to play with.

nice visuals! I gotta check out Isadora...

skyliner: yeah, the whole thing is live, but the video is totally midi-audio controlled. never touched the video-laptop. Almost every scene i trigger includes midi notes to isadora to control various thing. Check out Isadora if you want to do some a-v stuff.. I've been using it for just a few month really.. but i fell like i can get what i want quite well already.. it's a great piece of software.

So are programming all you midi controls before the show? Or are you generating them live? And the music is being manipulated live?

The music is manipulated a lot - the video is reacting to the audio. Moreover, and this is essential for the construction of the whole show (not too clear from the video uploaded maybe cause they're all short cuts), every scene in live includes some midi notes to isadora to control things like switching video layers on&off etc... tons of different things actually cause isadora is modular so you can make a single midi note control everything you want.. depend how you built the patch.
At some points the the midi signal from my midi controller goes even to isadora, so when I'm doing something on the audio there's always something happening in the video (like in the geometrical / 3d vid -where the audio is just a short beat being fucked up by me live - you can see it rotating when i freeze the beat etc. ). Lot of randomizations triggered on the beat then.. quite everywhere.
maybe here is a bit more clear (the opening track unedited, beginning missing)..

omg. this is fucking brillaint giovanni. great. i never ever seen a bit of you playing live, that was fantastic. but this one is far beyond anything i've seen from you. cool stuff.
ha. you used some beats from me.
i'll sue you

this looks fantastic. i've been dreaming of software that did this - no idea isadora existed.

Ok, I see now... super interesting. And amazing results!!

Wow. You don't often see people successfully syncing video and sound like that. And you really get the sense that you were playing the electronics like an instrument.
I'm impressed. I'm sure it was great live (loud).

very cool. this was fun to watch/listen. nice work!

peace

very very very impressive!
