--> until now whenever i touched the soldering iron the result was disaster & frustration. i'm surprisngly bad at this. but this time i got better. i followed these instructions -> link to make a distortion effect out of my old walkman. i ended up making something much noisier and way cooler!

when i first plugged in my poly61 in this and played a few notes i felt like i had built that huge spaceship from "independence day" by myself: it really worked like a distortion pedal. i still hadn't put the jacks & switch in place so i disconnected the synth and spent some time putting everything in place. after a while i thought i'd play with it a little more. when i turned it on it started making a loud buzz by itself, no synth connected.

the best part is that this walkman has some extra controls: a 3-band eq, an ear guard switch with 3 stages (1,2 & off) and a tape type selector (normal or chrome / metal). messing with these yields some interesting results, especially the mid band of the eq which changes the buzz tune. also, it still works as a distortion pedal. when there's signal going through the input the walkman's buzz is bypassed. again, messing with the controls sounds sweet.

Get your hands on a Speak n whatever next. They bend like a charm, very hard to fry.
