Just spent time today writing some patches... so time to carry on a little about it. Of course all of this excites me greatly, even if it may be a bit boring to others. Cest la vie right?
Simplicity,
I was amazed at how INVOLVED some of the preprogrammed patches are on this synth (Sunsyn). Either they were preset that way to show off its capabilities or the previous owner was into some serious modulation and thick sounds. So thick I imagine there isnt much room for other parts to be added. Just make a song from holding down one key, and add some drums later ..?
So I was at it - making some more straightforward sounds. Lately enjoying "thin" analog sounds... Which makes me think of ARP, even if I have no experience using any ARP synthesizer whatsoever. Maybe its just my way of classifying it. Some marketing guy should start a new catchphrase.... "THYN!" - new synth - The Big Thynney.
I thought sampling was never going to be for me,
Formerly convinced it was mainly for beat thieves, and was a poor way out of making your own sounds or rhythms. I can see how it is also used for amazing intricate splicing of beats, or for creating interesting ambiences, but even still I wasnt ready to jump in.
I am liking the short sample loops put in the Sunsyn. Theyre Lo-Fi and can be shortened or lengthened. Its fun to experiment with the length and putting them through filters/modulations. Almost like a budget recording of acoustic guitar lines transmitted from an underwater AM radio station... How could you not love that?
Future gear purchse = cheap, lo fi sampler... no doubt.
Well enough for today.. still looking to get cohesive/coherent on music project goals. Easy to just let the time fly by having fun, but in an aimless fashion...
Sometimes thats nice, but focus is key, and something I could use more of without question.
