urb magazine just did a piece on a compilation called "beat dimensions" that a couple of my friends are on (most notably JTodd, producer/singer/mc genius behind leo minor and def harmonic). it's a fantastic comp and it's also fantastic that urb put together a serious piece on it as well as did interviews with the comp's handful of unknown producers. it's a real step in the right direction for music journalism: actually checking out a tiny little comp, realizing it's really, really good, then calling up the producers to ask them about their gear, their techniques, and their thoughts on electronic music. imagine that.
