--> Midnight Sunrise (For Julia)

Alas, the ftp site wasn't up, so here's the alternate route for now. The inspiration has already heard it (and gave very positive feedback), so it's free for public ears. Anyone curious enough to hear my idea of a love song is more than welcome to it.

Overall, I think it's sweet, as in rocking, as in cool, not so much as in "cute" or "romantic." Knowing it's a love song, I would say it feels earnest to me, it has a bittersweet quality too, and is a bit raw. I've just had a bunch of caffeine and this song was a good listen for my mood.

Things I like: development, the song opens up as it goes, it builds. The "explosion" at 2:45 is cool, I like that synth sound, the low bass that pulses every 4 measures or whatever is cool too. I like the guitar-like sound that plays the piano melody at around 3:45. The break at 4:35 is cool, the drums sound interesting, and I like the bass here. The "march" at 6:45, a welcome rhythmic variation.

Things I don't like: repeativeness, drums in the beginning, piano. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the sound of the piano, it sounds kind of fake. The weird distorted synth/guitar at 5:15 or so is cool, but kind of feels separate from the other parts of the song. It sounds good when the drums pick up though. The song picks up about 1/3 of the way through, but the beginning is kind of slow for me (that piano is just too simple).
