a friend of mine missed the plane some weeks ago too.
as he really need to travel he was forced to buy a new ticket for about 500 euros for a 600 kilometre-travel.

new years eve a couple of years ago, UF, lowlifi, mrs lowlifi and myself were at stanstead airport about to board a plane for amsterdam, to go on the first big emmeet.
we all got a sandwich, sat down, started eating then realised that our plane was boarding. we ran to the gate but had just missed it and the staff wouldnt let us on.
i was absolutely sick to my stomach.

Couldn't you not have just paid a bit extra to fly on the next flight?
As Zanf said above we all missed a flight but only had to pay an extra £25* for a flight on the following day, we would even have flown on the same day but because it was new year's eve there were no later flights
