So, after hitting a bit of a creative brick wall more than two years ago, i've decided to start making music again.
I found myself stuck in a bit of a rut. A typical session would revolved around the same little ritual, start project in cubase, fire up some vst's, make a little noise and sequence accordingly. Making music stopped being exciting and challenging, and while it did provide a diversion the everyday bullshit, it was no longer a real creative outlet for dealing with it, expressing myself, or whatever...
Boring ramble aside, I'm feeling inspired again and I'm back on the case! This time around I've decided to start from scratch and break out of the box (cubase, et al). So I've started dabbling with the likes of pure data on the software side but I've also started collecting some hardware.
The hardware setup I have so far consists the FM3 Buddha Machine, Korg Kaoss Pad mini and an Allesis drum machine. A bit of a random collection, but so far it's a lot of fun. All I need to get now is a mixing desk so that I can start recording.
Can anyone recomend a simple mixing desk to start with? It needs at least 4 stereo channels, decent eq's and at least one effects send channel. The Soundcraft Compact 10 Mini Desktop Mixer looks pretty good. The turntable inputs mean i could ditch my DJ mixer, which would be great! But it has no effect sends :/
Any advice / suggestions / etc would be super appreciated!

i use a yamaha mg10/2 - no phono level inputs tho - and although it has 2 sends, you can only really set them up in mono. but it is dirt cheap, and the eq is passable.

a friend of mine said that yamaha should have stuck to making motorbikes and synths. i think with mixers you generally get what you pay for.

i saw that when looking around. but yeah, yamaha doesn't really inspire any confidence as far as their mixers go. The Alesis Multimix 12FX is also looking pretty attractive at the mo link .But i have to fight the urge to go spending loads only to end up using a fraction of the features. So that could very well do...
What kinda kit do you have running through yours?

why not focus on making music instead of buying stuff? you don't necessarily need a mixing desk, do you?

Naa, I need a desk to tie everything together. Other wise all i have is a lot of noise in my room and no way to record, sequence or create anything out of it..

haha! yeah i know, and i've got that buying itch right now. i do need a a mixer tho.
giant> i think this one is an earlier model. there's no firewire on this on. the fx feature must have been dropped in favour of the firewire.

I have a Yamaha MG10/2, although I don't use it, since I upgraded to an MG16/6FX
I like the sound of the desk, it colours the sound, no doubt, but at least it's different to the colour of everyone elses' Soundcraft and Mackie mixers. The EQ is nice, too, and if you push the preamp stage to clipping level, you get a really nice crunch on drums.
They're lovely and cheap, too, without having to go for Behringer.
