--> So My Favorite Guitar pedal is apparently broken.
It the Tone Zone "Catch a Buzz" fuzz pedal.

Man I loved this thing. I had it for over two years without a problem. plus I bought it used so I know it gave years of fine service.
So, maybe I'll try to get it fixed. but either way I need a new fuzz pedal.
what are some your favorite fuzz pedals?
I've been thinking of building one, cause that's the cool thing to do these days, but it does seem like there are some cool fuzzes available right now.
anyone try any?

(and yeah I mean FUZZ not OD or distortion :P )

I had a colorsound fuzzphaze which I sold. It was nice, but $350 was nicer (it was a 1975 version, so "vintage" = $).

About your pedal: fix it! I would bet it has to do with a bad connection or a power issue.

theres a very sweeet very easy 1 transistor fuzz circuit on experimentalistsanonymous

Yeah, seriously, there are like exactly ten components in the average fuzzbox. One of the leads has become unsoldered. Open it up, look for things that are dangling away from where they should be and resolder them.

I had a Big Muff as a kid, and I made an op-amp Muff Fuzz (super simple, you should try it). The Muff sound just makes me happy.

I've already opened her up.
I can find no loose connections, spots that look burnt or cold joints.

The only wierd thing I could find in it was a scratch on the board. but it looks as if is connecting something (i could be wrong)

oh, btw, those pedals are probably the worst 'commercial' products i have ever seen.

and yeah I've had three different types of big muffs.
I always liek them at first then eventually sell them.
I think it's the tone knob. I'm begining to hate drive/fuzz/distortion pedals with tone knobs.

so the unit powers up, the green light comes on to let me know that.

The other two leds, one for telling you the effect is "on" does not light when I press the switch. the third is an LED at the end of the dudes spliff, that glows according to how hard you play also doesn't light up leading me to believe that there is something wrong with the input/output.

the way it broke was this: I was A/Bing a bunch of pedals on my pedal board. the catch a buzz stays at the end of the chain. everythings fine.
I add a flanger before the fuzz. sounds a bit muddy. so I switch the flanger and fuzz. when I plugged the fuzz in all the pedals on my board lit up and then turned off. but everything seemed to be working. except come to find that the signal is only going through the fuzz when it's on. but no signal when it's off. So I turn every thing off and connect just the fuzz. now it doesn't work at all.

The fuzz I might build is the well known "ultimate fuzz" from build your own clone.
of course fixing this one is an option, but you can never have too many fuzz effects, I always say.

oh, btw, those pedals are probably the worst 'commercial' products i have ever seen.

you mean the tone zone pedals?
not really mass produced. I have tried all three pedals at one time or another, but the other two aren't really my style.

OK, that sounds like something is fried.

Muff Fuzz. No tone, just volume and on/off.

But still, there are Muff people and Fuzz Face people. Your Tone Zone looks Fuzz Facy, so I'm going to guess you're a Fuzz Face person.

don't get me wrong about the muff, I still respect it and all it's sonic glory.

muff fuzz? is that one of the new smaller Eh pedals?
link please?

zachary vex is the fuzz master. hands down.

i'd highly, highly recommend the fuzz factory and the mammoth.

Muff Fuzz was a very old (pre-Big Muff) EH box. Muff Museum page on Fuzz Muff. The Big Muff is basically a Muff Fuzz with a sustain section and tone controls added.

Here's the schematic for the version I built. The first Muff Fuzzes used transistors, then EH switched to op-amps. Supposedly they sound different, but I've never heard the transistor one.

I've tried the fuzz factory, too many knobs.
Don't get me wrong it's amazing, but it's overkill for my needs.

plus zvex is too expensive.

thanks for the link otterfan, that looks like a cool project regardless of wether or not it becomes my main fuzz.
Thnsk

dood, FUZZGOD by Redwitch!!! I love the hell out of this thing... the 'wrath' switch is ace.

Also, I know you said zvex is hella too expensive but the Wholly Mammoth has to be the best fucking thing I've ever heard. It really is expensive tho, like $325 or so.
