At the suggestion of celibacyclub, I recorded some sounds from the Korg Ploy-61 I'm attempting to repair. There's some abrupt loudness changes and other discrepancies; I basically recorded ten minutes of noodling and cut it down to just under five. If you can listen to the whole thing without jumping ahead, you're braver than I.

On the positive side, the arpeggitor seems to be working fine, despite what the previous owner told me. On the negative side, I'm still getting the 'sticky tone'. Plus, with the DCO sustain turned down to minimum, every sixth note fails to sound. This confirms my suspicions that the source of the trouble is one of the voice chips, and I plan to disable it somehow.

But how? That's the question I've run into. I have no idea how to detect which chip it is, or how to disable it, once I have the 'hood up' on this thing. I guess I'll have to wing it. More on that in the next episode. With pics.

i almost bid on one of these yesterday.

im on a vintage synth shopping spree.

if you dont make a song out of the noodle i will.

Yes, so my dad bought one of these when they came out.
Please tell me its not his, because he sold it after it became a hassle to play. (the sixth note thing)
I know zero about the inner workings of a digital synth, but I think it has little to do with the arpegg in se.
Its just that the max polyphony is now 5, so maybe you want to repaint it into a poly51

my flatmate has the poly61M but we've never got the midi working on it. They do pop up all the time on ebay in various condiitons so maybe you can get a second for spares?

From what I understand, that sixth note thing is common in the poly 61. There should be an abundance of internet resources telling people how to fix this.

Edit: you know, I just did some digging, and couldn't find anything. But I have heard of this happening to more than one person...

It happens to Junos sometimes (hope it doesn't happen to mine). The Juno mailing list is actually where I first heard of this phenomenon.

cc: Go for it. I'll be interested to hear what you come up with.

my juno has the sixth key problem, or it had it before it stopped working all together.

but i managed to make that song of mine '106 pieces of grey' with it,

so im excited. i like making songs by cutting up noddles.

ive got a song started.

will probably take me a while though, im kinda in a start a new song every day mode.
