--> I went and saw Daft Punk in Seattle this past weekend. Pretty awesome show...easily the most impressive light show I've ever seen, and the music was really great too. Pretty much nothing they played sounded exactly like it does on their records, something I liked. They really have more of a dj-style when they play live, which is cool, but it really made me wonder what they were doing up in the pyramid. A little while ago, musicthing (www.musicthing.blogspot.com) put up some pictures of inside the pyramid that showed 2 laptops, 2 bcr2000s, and 4 moog voyager racks. I wish I knew more about what they did in action...whether it was just pressing play or not.

Regardless, my questions on their techniques aside, it was a great show.

i was there too. the bar was raised.

really? a raised bar?? so no midgets could get a drink.. kinda rude

i know, wtf america.....

daft punk played the 'rock ness' festival at loch ness recently. apparently they received £250,000 ($500,000) for their appearance.

if thats true, i'd hope they'd be doing a lot more than fucking with traktor live.

i dunno, that pyramid must use a lot of energy..... was it laptops or lemurs inside?

probably instant replay..
link

indeed. they put on a show like no other.
but even better than da daffy boyz was the after party at chop suey.
sebastian + kavinsky tor them shits up!!!! they totally suck as djs (well maybe they were reaaally drunk/hi ...so i'll give em that much). but goddamn, they had that place bouncin' like i haven't seen in a while.

dammit, i had to drive back to canadia.......
Yeah, I just caught their show in Berkeley. It was off the hook. They killed it for about 2 hours, playing mixes of their tracks I've never heard, with a well synced light show that never repeated and kept evolving. They even mixed in a little stardust towards the end. As far as how they did it live. I'm sure it was all scripted, I mean all the transitions were flawless, and the lights were synced perfectly.

1 macbook to rule them all.

who's Les?

omg em979871, that link just BLEW my mind. Thanks for ruining a great band! Everybody go and listen to those songs, its really interesting.

no seriously guys, go listen to that link!:

Theres no santa!
I really don't know how I feel about this- but they're not NEARLY as creative as I thought they were. What amazes me is that it took THIS long for somebody to ID these samples. It's like 90% of what they sample is in the first 15 seconds of records. To me, that shows a lot of laziness and disrespect for the music. When somebody samples a little farther into a record, it says to me that they listened to it. It's like being a native american and not thanking the gods for your buffalo.

i hate that DJ's who suck get a place bouncing.

cause guess who gets hired again...

I think it has to do a lot more with their aesthetic as opposed to how live their performance is. or whatever.

when I perform, sometimes I play really super busy massive crazy music off a cd player and stand there completely still for the duration of the set. people, especially my friends, seem to think it is really funny and like it. it's all just bull shitin' and having fun.
