--> so it seems the previous controversy over stealing a demoscene artists work and using it uncredited in a nelly furtado album track hasnt put timbaland off using chiptunes in his work.

the new timband-produced fifty cent single 'ayo technology' (lol) prominently features the sound of tims sidstation playing arpeggaited chords as the main body of the tune. it'll be interesting to find out what the chiptunes scene think of this...

at least (i think) he's not stealing this time, tho the song is bloody awful. at least he used a good chiptune the last time.

here's a link to the new 50 cent/timbaland tune : link

a few days ago i heard a promo of the new percee p song (ft. diamond d and produced by madlib) and it happened to have a sampled NES beat to it too.

link to the new percee p/madlib track : link

could this spark a new trend of chiptune sampling hiphop for the next few months? i certainly hope not!

Oh no (madlibs brother, also on stones throw) used chiptunes on his debut, a great record btw. Back in 2004.

it's funny how hip hop nowadays is just electronic music with people rapping over it, but people just act like instrumental em is the gheyest thing since the holocaust.

congrats you won the price for the dumbest comment in ages.

seems likehiphop has a new love. as long as they don't just take tunes other people's tracks without criditing and such, i couldn't care less.

mkvolcano i meant with the dumbest comment

yo dog da raw trak is good dog but i cant get of up in da club witout fitty spitn dat manly musk in my ear yo

i bet i could come up with a way dumber comment.

I find the both rather parallel. When I heard some of the Zelda Oh NO beats ... I thought it was all very modern and seemed typical/natural/etc...

I mean ... IDM, electronic music, indie hop, beat music... has been all the same pool and process for the last 8 years or so..

"making beats" music.

not "playing wank" music.
man, i'm sure it's just me but, i thought that track kinda sucked.

Timbaland's pioneering "SUPM" -- Stolen Unintelligent Pop Music.

didn't timbaland retire? I thought he gave this huge speech about how he was the greatest producer evar.

Oh, and i wish rap would stop using 808 samples for every beat.

As for genres mixing, has anyone heard the sage francis / will oldham collaboration, I think it's called sea lion? Fits like a hand in a glove.

Edit: Especially since Sage Francis pretty much is the Will Oldham of hiphop anyway.

Anytime I've had to DJ tag with some sorry bastard that plays Timbaland .. I just play "Foreign Bodies" by Herbert. Blows it away.

thanked god I haven't DJ'd in 2 or 3 years ... that shit has become such a Nike boy fest..

When they start sampling artists like Skaven and Purple Motion , then I'll believe that they know anything about chiptunes. Otherwise they're just leechers, and whatever. Here's a solution. Steal it back and make SIPM. Super Intelligent Pop Music.

Sample the fuck out of everything. Everyone says copyright is dead.. so.. back it up.

btw, i'm not complaining about the sampling of chiptunes at all. i was just quite surprised to hear two new tracks from two respected producers both utilising chiptunes samples in the same week. as these producers are both very influential i thought it'd be strange if in the coming months all the wannabes and "me too" producers all start sampling chiptunes too...
