damn that looks the shit, i want one.

I've yet to find a keyboard that feels as nice as the Kurzweil K2XXX for synth action. However, if the rotaries aren't "clicky" and the keyboard is of Fatar calibre, this could be a real winner. A 61 key or more version would also be nice.

agreed. i wish i could try one out before taking the plunge.

The Kurzweil and also most of the Ensoniq keyboards are the best that were ever made.

The new Akai key most likely won't be that or even Fatar quality.

Look for it to be the same kind of mushy keys that went into the Alesis keys like the Micron, or worse yet the Photons.
Essentially this is the replacement for the Alesis Photon X49 that was announced but never made. Notice the lack of aftertouch.
Also this will most likely depend on the windows midi driver. Photons reacted badly to that in the past, especially with Delll systems.
The sliders and buttons are the same the MPD24 essentially.

This won't be shipping for at least a season.

nice notice with the aftertouch. essentially i need to simplify my live setup and this seemed like a good idea. i need pads, keys and faders, and i'd like to trim down. since you gotta give it to akai for the mpc pads, i figured this might be a good bet. any other ideas, sean?

Yeah the Kurzweil keys are hard to beat in many aspects, not the least of which it should be considered that I've spilt beer in them twice and they're still working perfectly.
I'm sure when the Akai comes out, it will be readily demoable at Guitard Center, so we'll see I guess.

i also kind of think it should be assumed that a $400 controller might not be quite as superb as a $2,600 keyboard. i don't have a ton of cash and i'd rather not have three different midi controllers out for a live show.

edit: it does, in fact, have aftertouch.
