My 7 month old MOTU 828 mkII (Firewire) stopped working yesterday. 1st it had strange characters on the screen then I did a restart for it. It didn't start working after the restart and after several other ones as well. I unplugged it from every other device and also took out the power cable for a night. It didn't start working today either. Here you see what it does.

Has anyone else had same problem?

Unicorns gone wild!!

Have you tried hitting it? Sorry, that's all the advice I can give.

It hasn't hit me before, just been inside that rack all the time.

Did you register your serial number at motu.com and set up a support techlink?

have you tried doing a hard reset?

best bet is to go to unicornation.com and ask there

I have registered it at motu.com
I just registered at unicornation.com to seek for some help.
What do you mean by hard reset? I did what was described on motu's website (pressing setup, rotating it to the right and then pressing select and then pressing valuse and then cursos or somethin) but it didn't do a thing... and as you saw on the video then nothing appears on the screen.

Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
Press the Select knob
Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
Power the interface back on
The same steps can be followed to restore the Factory Default Settings on a Traveler

jdg, I tried it several times but it didn't work.
I also changed the voltage button to uncharge the mainboard but it didn't work either.

send that bastard back ( i had nothing but probs with my 828mkII, until i sold it to zanf.. havn't had a problem since ;) )
email/call motu. this is a semi common thing. they will tell you various reset functions and get you to try a few things. if those don't work then you send it to motu and they send you a new one. for real. motu stands behind their gear. it may take a little while to get them on the phone but when you get ahold of them they will sort you out.

I have got replies from their technical dept. but it seems that they can only offer me a fix for 80$ (I would also have to send it to US, while I'm located in Estonia - Europe). There's nothing I can do myself. I'll see what local distributor of MOTU in Estonia has got to tell me tomorrow. It should be in EU so that it doesn't matter where the item has been bought within the EU, and the warranty should work in every country in EU.

And ofcourse I mention it just because I ordered it from Germany... I could also send it back there but if I don't have to (by the laws) then I won't.

My friend had similar problems with his motu, he ended up exchanging it for another one.

The headphone volume knob shaft broke off my Ultralite and they charged me $70 to fix it (which entailed sticking a non broken shaft into the encoder... the bastards). On top of that, I can literally walk from my apartment to their offices in Cambridge, MA, but they refused to let me drop it off (I had to ship it 4 blocks and pay insurance, etc).

I find them annoying and their name sucks too...

throw water on it

Ok, seems that this Estonian company would do nothing to repair it, I'll have to post it to Germany then...
