Cheers everyone.
For the past few months I have been DJ'ing various special events at the truly wonderful Ackland Art Museum. One of these gigs was called 'Art After Dark' (I posted about this a few months ago). This is where the museum stays open late on the second Friday of every month to invite people to stay downtown and enjoy some art in the galleries. I provide the soundtrack for their experiences in the museum. Well, I just got offered this spot through the end of 2007! This is great news since they are nice enough to actually pay me very well.
So, I've updated my site to include 3 of my mixes for download. 2 Art After Dark mixes and 1 Music in the Galleries mix. The Music in the Galleries series (which I am also doing again soon) takes place on Sunday afternoons - so the music is more ambient/neo-classical/folk than the other contemporary/house stuff for the Art After Dark series. Stop by and check them out:
3 Mixes For Your Ears
This has been a blast for me - to not perform my original music but instead mix other artists' work.
In other news, I recently completed work on another modern dance score with the amazing choreographer Kate Baker (I've worked with her while in Immediate Theatre). Here is the opening sequence (1:30) for you to preview:
(re)soundings - edit
The full piece also includes a hand-made animation of an apple tree growing. The tree/trunk/apples were all made of tiny pieces of colored paper that were assembled in a stop-motion manner. It is projected along the back wall of the stage. This was accomplished by the hard work of a great friend and collaborator, David Colagiovanni. We hope to have a snippet of the animation to share sometime soon, so stay tuned.
My dance score remix album should hopefully be wrapping up soon as well. Just waiting on 2 more people to finish up - then off to JDG to hook me up proper on mastering. Thanks again to everyone who did one for me - your work is amazing and I can't wait to share it with everyone here.
Lastly, I've begun the scouting process for Grad Schools. I've decided to get my MA/MFA in graphic design. This is a daunting task but I am excited by it...any tips or advice from anyone would be swell. I've been ramping up projects to include in my portfolio, and with the help of a great friend/photographer/collaborator, Stephen Aubuchon, it will look sexy as all hell. I'm working on a mockup of a catalog for him which I can share soon.
So, thanks for reading and checking me out. I appreciate your eyeballs for this long. Keep in touch.
Peace / Benjamin
