For the past week or so I've been down with a shitty Flu virus. Fevers, headaches, double vision, coughing etc. The worst part is sweating so much at night i think i've pissed the bed. Every single night.
Some annoying results have come from this illness. One part is that i was ill at my sister's wedding. I'm glad i made it, but made myself more ill by drinking a lot of brandy and barn-dancing too much.
I'm going to Berlin for a much needed break on Wednesday, but due to being ill will have next to no spending money. Working as agency staff means i don't get any sick pay. I also missed out on a bank holiday (double time) and some other extra shifts i'd organised to pay my way. Total cost about £540.
Also, i was too ill to apply for the job that i really wanted link so now i've missed the deadline. That was quite upsetting because i'd actually spent time trying to learn Cubase specifically, a few hours writing the form out, drafting my personal statement etc etc. And it's a job i'd really fucking like to do with the rest of my life.
Despite these fucking slug bastard bollock twatty circumstances, some good has come out. I've had a lot of time to think so i've had a lot of ideas for my new album. Ideas for making, performing and recording drones up at the studio, use of casette tapes and sub sonic ambient noise, field recording etc., further thoughts on mixing the tracks into each other, ideas about resurecting old tunes from when i used FL2. Lots and lots.
I was overjoyed while walking the dog in the field, to find a bent up old LP which didn't have any cracks in it. Covered in mud and shaped like a savoy cabbage leaf it seemed like a godsend of a found object to use to make sounds with. More intriguing was that the label's font has completely worn away: i've no idea who it's by or from when! My initial attempt to straighten it out involved running it under hot water (getting the mud off also) then putting it under some heavy weights. It didn't really work so if anyone's got any other ideas, let me know... I think a track made just of samples of this beast might be extrordinary. It's a whole album so there's got to be plenty to go on. If it's a cliff richard album i'll eat my hat.
Also, for some reason when i was really down and fevered, i thought up some comedy sketch ideas which i wrote down. I intend to expand these and send them to the BBC (do i sound like adrian mole?) These are the joys of recieving a spiffing moleskine notebook for your birthday off your girlfriend.
Anyway, i'm 90% better and back in work. Counting down the hours till i'm in Berlin. The forecast is sunny for the weekend and i'm keeping my fingers crossed my credit card will let me expand its already plump waistband....

You dont sound like adrian mole - you ARE adrian mole!
Illness is always shitty but I do enjoy the near hallucinatory experience of flu - the thought of my body raging war, fighting off an invader at almost cellular level is mindfuck and the effect is has on the whole can open the mind up to new paths. Mind you, I was almost getting hard-ons reading about haemophagic plagues last year so that says a lot about my state of mind to start with.
As for bent up record - this is a very tricky one and requires immense amount to detail - too hot and you melt it - not enough and no results but i have straightened out [as best as can be done] records by using an iron and towel - put the record in the towel and iron gently and then press with heavy books. Ive fucked more records than Ive fixed but thats the price.
Shame about the missed work & subsequent pay but dont be an ass and borrow money now as youll just be down twice as much. Maybe the trip to Berlin is meant to be a very relaxing one, not filled with lots of partying etc.
As for the missed job opportunity - jobs are like buses - there'll be another one along in a minute but most likely it wont take you where you want to go and the driver will be a moany fucker with no change for a tenner. ;)

I had a dream about some gay right wing christians flagelating themselves on an assault course (a bit like the one off krypton factor) then their land rover wouldn't start.

Get some old vinyl you could try it out on first get the right temperature so you at least have the best chance of not melting it

I think "hot radiator" temperature would be about right as i once left a 12" leaned against a radiator and it went crinkly at the edges...
A practice go might have to be attempted.

I remember seeing some diy thing where they put straight vinyl into curved glass bowls in the oven and semi-melted them into the bowl. So try it on a flat surface in the oven?

Last time I had the flu I kept dreaming everyone was trying to dump their trash on my yard. What's worse is they were also trying to crucifying me for dumping my trash on theirs. I was innocent, I swear it.
