--> Apple told me I should get the MacBook Pro instead of MacBook, because of seriously more power (no share video-mem) and larger screen resolution.

Mmm, the black MacBook looks better in my opinion than the Pro.

So: is Apple right?

I want to run Ableton Live + Reason mainly on that machine. And maybe Final Cut Express.

How much memory do I need? 3 gig or maybe even 4 gig? I now have 1 gig in my Sony and Reason Pianos needs more for it larger patches. But that's under XP, I heard OSX needs more mem. Will 2 gig be enough (the standard for MB Pro) or a serious nono?

And yes: hell to Vista! DRM fucking Microsoft. Sneaky big brothers.

well, a friend of mine works in an apple shop and tells me that the macbook is one of the machines with more troubles he's ever seen, he says that the mac book pro is a way better machine... i don't know if he's right but he convinced me.

said that, i think it's all about luck with computers. someone has problems with them, someone dont. who knows.

as for ram, i'd max it out for sure. even tho it costs a lot from apple. dunno about other vendors who make ram that fits in the mbp. anyone?

You can order your memory from germany link, I got my 2gb from there and it works great on my macbook. I've had lots of trouble with my macbook (1st release version), but now it's all just fine. The only thing is that Powercore Firewire won't run well on windows on macbook, but runs just fine in osx.
For multitracking macbook is ok, but for working with newer vst instruments every new computer is probably too slow.

thanks guys. some people on the Propelerhead board told me 2 gigs should be enough.

don't do it dude, don't buy any apple products. FUCKING GROSS!

oh right u dont want vista. i forgot there's so little choice for people who like to be raped. should i be raped by the douche or the turd sandwich? there's another way! DUN DUN DUN linux baby YEEEEe

if u like that sort of thing.

live+reason will run fine on either a mac or a pc (but not linux LOL)

would love to switch to linux but I need a lot of time to do so. Live and Reason are my main tools and clients are waiting. so: less time.

linux is like softsynths, only fucking loads worse

just cos the black macbook looks better doesnt mean its better than the macbook pro :P

yes theyre right, it is better... but for music you dont really *need* a pro, its more a luxury for those who can afford to pay almost twice as much for their laptop.

pierlu001. . The macbooks did have alot of troubles when they initially came out, but the updated ones seem to be fine

i know this is a general statement, please hate...

LINUX IS GARBAGE.

Linux if for nerds who don't have a life or job. Sorry, they do have a life, it's called Linux.

why some much hate Bonz and Taavi?

Marco, I would recommend going for the MacBook Pro if you plan working with a lot of audio/samples. You will need 4GB soon enough. Especially with Reason if you do a lot of work with the NNXT and any type of sampler. I love the MacBook, but can already see myself pushing it close to the 2GB memory limit with Live and Kontakt.

I say go Pro.

i have first gen mbp.. and i run into the 2GB ceiling daily... intel macs eat memory.
my G5 has 2GB and does perfect. but this thing.. EATS THE RAMS
