which got me to thinking about my own gear history...
gear (years owned/sold after) approximately:

Juno 6 (1.5)<--- first synth
Jupiter 6 (17)<--- fave synth
tr-606 (.25 & 3)
tr-808 (6)
MC-202 (5) [forgot this earlier!]
Roland D-20 (6)
Roland D-110 (4)
Ensoniq ESQ (6)
VFX (5)
ESQ-M (4)
Emax (5)
Mackie 1604 (8)
Kawai XD-5 (4)
TX81Z (9)
Virus B (.75) <--- bought at same time as MWXT. Big mistake.

Won't go into effects - but the synths I have left are in my profile. Thank god my gear-lust is somewhat abated by other priorities. What I have left in hardware is: Roland DR660, MC505, RX11, Waldorf MWXT, microKontrol

why'd you break up with the jupiter after so long?

yeah, that's what I was wondering too

Jupiters are great. I love my 8! Microwave better than a Virus? Fah! To each his own.

Need To Get Rid Of:
broke-ass Blackface ADAT, EH Big Muff Nano
Would Like to Swap Out:
Electrix Filter Factory for Sherman FB, Roland Alpha Juno for MKS-50, TB 303 for Buchla Series 200 ;)

ive never sold anything- just BUY BUY BUY!

I just miss my MC-202... the rest could go to hell.

ack!! I had an MC-202 - I can't believe I forgot to list that!! Loved it as well... but needed cash at the time... It was awesome for it's quirkiness.

Why'd I sell my Jupiter 6?? The fact of the matter was that I had had it for so damn long that it began to feel almost too familiar in some regards. I loved it, truly, but it was large, very heavy, taking up valuable space, and was just got too heavy (and fragile) to consider bringing to gigs anymore (which I rarely did anyway as I live in Manhattan and don't own a car or roadies).

Why'd I sell my Virus B?? That's a funnier story/lesson. I'd done some audio projects that allowed me a 'surplus' of cash. I had borrowed a Virus A that I fell in love with and decided a B would be awesome. However, for nearly 2 decades I had an insatiable desire to get a Waldorf wavetable synth. The Virus was supposed to 'replace' the Jupiter (and in many regards it could for me), and the Waldorf MWIIXT was the icing on the cake. Something I'd been pining over for years. The MWXT had something the other's didn't: 40 continuous knobs! It was the perfect knob-box with the wackiest architecture in my arsenal. I bought the Virus and MW around the same time - and it was no contest. The MW was too odd, too unpredictable and too exciting. For months I did little else but program sounds on it and figure out ways to use it with my MC505. I was smitten. The Virus just sat, collecting dust. It is a beautiful machine - but didn't have that 'sparkle' and oddness I had been looking for. I needed to reclaim some of my cash, so the Virus went. I still love the Virus and would get one again - eventually - but selling the XT was unthinkable. A unique device all around. My only regret is it's 'limitation' of 10 voices, as I love long envelopes and slowly evolving textures. Alas, I doubt I'll ever find the 40-voice upgrade.

correction - 44 knobs on the XT.

I always wish I had gotten a MW. I had the same experience with the virus B, it sounded great but I never really used it.

The biggest regret I had in selling was my korg OASYS card. I got one for $500 when they were blowing them out at guitar center and I think I sold it for like $300.

so why did you sell your tx81z? it doesn't take that much space and it would hardly give you a lot of money to sell it.

I may have just given 81z away... or sold it cheap. I can get most of those (if not ALL) from my soft-synth or other gear. I'm sick of racks.
