--> Well I'm back. Not that any one realized I was gone since I was mostly a lurker anyway. However spending a month back home in Detroit without internet did make me miss this site. I gleam a lot of information off of here. I guess I'm making this blog to say I'm going to become more involved in this community? Maybe? Either way.... While I was gone I switched to osx (from pc) and am loving it. I had used live before for school and what not but really diving into it has been fun. One thing I noticed though was I have to be a lot more careful about my general mix than previously in Sonar. I also realized I don't really use EQ or compression for mastering so much as just generating weird sounds. Which means I'm about to hop over and read some of those tips by JDG. I've also found myself in a "band" with this guitarist singer/songwriter. Which is strange because I'm not used to working with acoustic sounds. I'll post the one finished [hah] thing we have soon so I can get some feedback on how to work better with recording vocals and acoustic instruments.

One more thing: any of you Boston cats out there know of anyone to find a venue for more experimental stuff. Like a noise show that is NOT at Mass Art?

I'm sort of out of the loop when it comes to recent experimental happenings, but it seems like PA's Lounge is a hotbed link , and there is always AS220 in Providence.

Definitely second PA's.

Are you trying to set up a show? Or see one?

Other places that often have weird stuff:

* Zeitgeist Gallery in Inman Sq.; their site looks dead but I went to a show there in June or July...
* The Playground Music Series at Boston Dance Company in Central
* Soto Studio sometimes has music/sound-art (and it's actually in Boston!)
* Bullfinch Yacht Club is more of an indie club, but they'll book people; also in Boston

Surely there must be some place in JP? Even Allston must have something besides straight rock...

welcome to your home

and good luck finding a local venue in which to express yourself

We should really have an STFU Boston. I think we're the most well-represented US town on this site behind Portland.

I think someone (flies?) was working on this a year ago, but the lack of support shown by folks like me scuttled it...

I've seen a few things said on this site about STFU but since it was always random cities I never really looked into what it actually is.

its just people (mostly from em411) getting together and organising a night of our own music link
there hasnt been one your side of the atlantic yet
so far theres no money in it but its great fun and always great music

Yeah there should definitely be some more independent organizing of the experimental variety (STFU or otherwise).
