The fascinating failure of Dave Biro's attempt at an 8-track cassette powered improvement to the Mellotron.

And some sound samples (link in the article doesn't work)

nice! very cool article

Read that...crazy.

Esp crazy there are only a few that exist

now THAT is a crazy story right there.

IDM is dead

Birotronica is gonna be the next big thing.

biro like the pen?

Biro like MonoRo, only twice as good.

Oh man, if he did a Birotron album, he could call it:

Birophenia

it'd be a single LP, of course.

I would LOVE one of these.... More than a mellotron? Maybe.

or even just a good sample set...
Aaaah Rick Wakeman....

I've got that Yes album with it all over it (in the background where you can't hear it hardly)...in fact i'm listening to it now.

...Oh dear
Recent blogs: R.I.P Tony Wilson

wow, that was an awesome story.

great story.

It's also kind of crazy to think Biro dedicated so much of his life to this pursuit.

Paul Collins (author of article) is a great writer...I loved his book "Banvard's Folly" which is about historical crackpots and infamous has-beens. Not that Biro is either...

HELL YES IT WOULD BE.

someone make this!

The sound samples page is a hilarious read.

"Imagine you've just heard that your entire family has been killed in a Bizarre Toileting Accident, that your puppy had just been caught in a food processor, that Yamaha were bringing out the DX7 again and that Michael Bolton was planning another tour. How sad would this make you feel?

Probably sad enough to want to listen this miserable new sound."
