--> Not to sure about this yet. It seems that it doesnt quite know whats its doing either.

Is it a quick and easy method to keep track of peoples blogs/release/events/gigs/etc or is it like the myspace/friendster collecting network system?

If it was just for tracking blogs and releases you like, then why the necessity for the person you are adding to 'approve' you as a friend? Surely, if you just want to track someones activity then the old buddy system was the better path to take.

I cant help but feel its sort of trying to include the MySp system while retaining the functionality of the old buddy system, which admittedly, didnt extend beyond being able to emmail quickly, check online status and click to visit their homepage but coulkd have easily been expanded similar to what we have now but without the MySp'iness of it.

What if I want to follow someones activity but not necessarily be added as a friend? Maybe they dont want to be friends but I still want to be able to quickly check their releases?

Im sort of not to sure about the reciprocation of the system. If it was a tracking feature then why the friendster networking side of it? (On the thread about the new site features, this is how it was sold to me)

Well, it's everyones site, how do you all want it to function? Do you want it to just be a way to track people's blogs, releases, etc? Do you want it to be a networking thing? You tell me.

i always liked em411 because it didn't have a networking button - you actually had to chat with people to make friends

slightly related: it would be handy if your 'friends' page gave an rss feed.

further: i don't have a comment on the way it works now, exepct it seems ok to me (and simple).

I'd like to track ppl's releases and blogs even if they reject me as a friend.

Im not having a go about it at all - all of this is still first impressions but I do have a tendency to shy away from that MySp model. Although the last.fm one is a lot better.

Maybe I just have the wrong end of the stick with the concept behind it. Like I said, I was under the impression it was more of a repository/feed aggregator of people that interested you around the site.

I could actually see the system being 2 tiered with a favourites and a friends list.

Im up for giving more time to adjust to it - this is still christmas morning and the wrapping paper hasnt long come off.

a level balance would be fine, IMHO.

even if u rejext someone, can they keep trying to add u as a friend?

is anyone else seeing those images? i'm just seeing the [image] tags and the urls

i see images everywhere i look.

i like the way the friends is done on lastfm, you can add anyone, anyone can add you, but it's up to the individual to decide if they want it to be mutual.

tmns: what happens when it becomes mutual?

Lastfm's friend /grouping concept is kind of nice. at least it's not like myspace. although i think friendster's is best since it shows the path of the six degrees of kevin bacon.

there is no need to "Accept friend requests" when two people request eachothers friendship.

Either that, or you automatially become "friends with priveledges"

you have no control over who puts you on their friends list, but you get notified when someone does, then you can decide if you want to add them too.
