--> I've found a way to speed up editing operations that I do a lot in the arrange view of Ableton live. Live itself is missing key commands for many operations that i find myself doing often (eg. reversing a clip), but with an OS X app called iKey, it's possible to create your own combination commands that can be triggered by keyboard events.

I made a short vid showing what i'm up to (sorry for the horrible blurriness)

You can get iKey here (demo is free, full version is $30): link

Windows users wanting to do similar things should check autohotkey:

You can grab an export of my current iKey commands file here (unzip it, then you can import the ikex file via iKey):

Good tute here about how to modify old qwerty keyboards for use as footpedals for a live setup a-la kid beyond, also uses iKey: link

thanks for the great info, cbit.

cheers cbit. looks like a very nice piece of software. off to check it out more.

Very cool. Thanks cbit!!
Kid Beyond uses this method to loop in ableton, he just controls the key commands with midi with a pedal:

autohotkey looks great - thanks!

also - your voice is a lot sexier than i imagined

lol, i have a cold, maybe that helps. autohotkey is more powerful than iKey i think, it looks great.

I discovered that using consolidate commands embedded into a command sequence causes problems because it takes a unpredictable amount of time to complete: meaning that subsequent actions might fail if they depend on the consolidate having finished. So i'm removing all consolidate actions from my commands.

i've spoken with cbit over the internet.. he sounds like tony blair! :P

LOL, Skab things cbits voice is sexy
jdg thinks cbits voice is like Tony Blair

ergo, they think Tony Blair is sexy
great stuff.

thanks man.

your voice really sounds a lot deeper than usual.

i bet you think all brits sound like tony blair, even zanf.

All you Cbrits sound alike

autohotkey does weird bad things to ableton when i run them together.
i didnt know you could use it to control ableton commands!

no, zanf sounds like a pikey

how do i get started using autohotky like this?

hikikomori, i haven't used autohotkey, but theres a big thread on the ableton forum where other Live users talk about their autohotkey scripts: link , this might be a good place to start.

(i think they're approaching it from the angle of creating commands that are useful for live show situations rather than audio editing though)
