--> Hey all,
so i signed on to this show a few days ago. I now have under a week to come up with a 30 set of music and visuals by myself. map~map performances have been rare lately as i have been focusing all my musical efforts toward 'unrecognizable now'... i have a few things that i have been playing around with musically but was totally stumped when it came to visuals. I decided to dig up a box of old 16mm films that a fellow named Zeke gave me many years ago. i have begun to edit some together an use them for source material. they are home movies from the 40s or 50's... they look cool.
we will see how it goes. if any portland people are bored next sunday and want to see some old 16mm films... come to holocene.
here is the info...

yikes, under a week! those 16mm films sound like a great idea. go kick some ass!

Wow, sounds hard to me!

But if anyone can pull it off, you can. Home movies from the 40's and 50's sounds rad.

I would probably take a bunch of strange youtube footage and make it sinister.

Good luck, you'll kick ass!

Hope the 16mm stuff works. One of my fav live "laptop" shows was polmo popo who used 16mm film. He'd stop the film at some points and let the film blister... looked absolutely beautiful.

Good luck!!

Those films look pretty rad. Good luck with the show!!!

nice! great pics. i'll try to make it. sundays are tough. i'll do my mest. yes, mest.

i just took a closer look at the dates on the film leader...
they are from 1936... even older than i thought.

wow!
Do you work in film for a living or something? Cause not a lot of people have the equipment to transfer 16mm to digital just hanging around.
Whats on the reels?
nope. i don't work in film. as for my transfer equipment... it consists of a 16mm projector, a dry erase board + my little canon TX-1 that shoots video.
those things + imovie and i am set.
the reels have all sorts of home movies and films someone took of some kind of logging operation.
it all looks pretty cool. too bad you were visiting last weekend and not this weekend!

i just found out a couple weeks ago that walgreens can convert film stock to digital for super cheap.

sounds great marc!

This was fun!

Liked the footage of the natural world and the loggers/farmers running in reverse...it was a dreamy backdrop to the music.

Hey thanks Ted. i had a good time too.
thanks for coming out.

Marc...I will attend one of your shows one of these damn days! (One of Teds too course. But not steve. Never. I couldn't stand the shame of missing his show here lol.)

Damn portland being in portland. You guys know where seattle is? I could get you a google map link ;)

joey, you could see me play next month with Tunng as map~map... or as Unrecognizable Now in December possibly with Ted!
