Calling for Chicago-based chiptune artists! Looking to put on a 2 day chiptune fest sometime in the cold winter or spring in Chicago. It'll be at the University of Chicago, we can pay $50 per artist. Looking for 8 artists for participation. Reply on this blog. Don't PM me, because the message will get lost.

Seeking diverse performers using anything from circuit bent instruments, C64, NES, gameboy, Atari, etc.

Rule is no laptops, sowwy. Lappies are cool, but we don't want them for this event.

kevin blechdom doen't make chiptunes, does she?

I think if chiptunners could just sync up their stuff with a drum machine, they would get stale not as quick.

There's this crazy guy Billy you might wanna talk to ... he left a comment on my band's myspace (Chandeliers).... he makes very Atari 2600ish stuff.

thanks! i'll try to find him on your page. i hope this idea will work out.

also, if anyone's from the midwest, i'll try to find additional funding somewhere for transportation + you can crash at my place.

oh, and this will be free show and open to public. nobody's into this idea? bad idea?

not necessarily a bad idea, i just don't think there's a ton of chiptune love in chicago. it's kinda like what happy hardcore was to the rave scene: the people that are into it are really into it, the people that are not are really not.

You need to post on some different sites, like VORC.org, Micromusic, 2a03, lemon64, nesdev asking for players. It wouldn't hurt to ask on EFNET #8bitpeoples, best if you just email artists directly. I know theres people involved out in the midwest its just tough to get in touch, Memblers is in Indiana and would be a great guy to get in contact with, did the solar wars soundtrack (nsf) and builds all his own nes hardware, his contact nfo is at the top of link . Hes one of the nesdev admins.

I'm not sure where yuppster / handheld is located these days, last I herd was in chicago, but might be worth trying to track down. link

Billy is AWESOME
