Short Fiction, Music, and Creativity

So one thing I've noticed is that seemingly disparate creative pursuits often enrich each other. This has been my experience with music and writing. With music, my process has been more open, letting my mind wander and trying to not think as much as possible, just "feel" melodies and rhythms. With writing in has been the opposite, going more from concepts, analysis, and contemplation. Lately, I've been trying to bring the two together more, feeling more in my writing, listening to the sound of language, the rhythms of the sentences, and in music, I've been thinking more, trying to write songs with structure, or based on specific things I identify before hand.
I'm becoming more convinced that all creativity comes from the same place in the brain.

I haven't got time to read them, but good to see someone else writing stuff too.
I'm writing a novel that's a bit like a jim jarmusch film, but set in Burnley in september 1996.

I agree. I go through phases of being very visually inspired or very musically inspired. One inspiration dictates what I am doing with my time, generally. either doing paste-ups and stencils on the streets, or working on music. Keeping myself inspired all the time, and creatively busy, seems to help the OTHER creative pursuit keep it's momentum.

Thanks guys for taking the time to read my stories. Yeah, realizing how much I get from the interaction between different creative forms makes me want to try other things. I think visual art, music, and writing are all sort of compositional arts, whereas acting and sometimes music are performing arts. I have never been too into the performing side, so I'm thinking about taking an acting class or something to see what happens when I get my brain working in the other direction.

I'm pretty miserable at all the other creative forms, but I love cooking and form/design. Honestly though, nothing has ever inspired my creativity more than reading.

I wish I could write like that. When I put forth the effort, I can write essays and such well and I used to write poetry a lot, but I envy the ability to weave details and characters into a narrative like that. I don't understand how to do it at all (seems like when I try to, I organize it to death), but I also find it very inspiring.
