Potential for a STFU in Central/South West England?

I have a module in my music technology course at college to organise and see out a performance type event that I need to start organising now for it to be taking place next year at some point.
I'd like to do it around where I live, which you can find by doing some sort of map search on Moreton-In-Marsh, so ideal places are Stratford Upon Avon, Banbury, possibly Birmingham or Oxford (south west and central england.)
Anyway, basically what is the potential for this? Are there many people that would consider coming to this area for a stfu? Also, should it be a commercial venue or a house type thing, if there are expenses is it good to have everyone donating a bit, or tickets etc.
I know a professional venue that is close to me that is pretty nice, not that expensive and has it's own PA, there are also village halls around me that are big and cheap.
Some advice from past stfu's would be greatly appreciated.
You can talk to me about it on the irc channel, but i'm currently changing over computers (typing this from college) so I can't be on for a few days, so until then just comment or mail me.
Oh, and I finally got my Kurzweil K2000 ^ ^
It's the rack mount version and its on it's way over the atlantic right now.
