--> I don't usually plug movies, but this one is incredible.

I don't want to give too much away, because it's really just enthralling the whole way through, but basically, it's a documentary about corn and the United States' food policy.

I think it may be one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. It's not just well done and researched, it's funny, touching, human, and genuinely entertaining. I can't say enough. It sets a very high standard.

go see it!

and stop drinking soda ffs

wow, that's saying a lot. Is it as entertaining/moving as Roger and Me?

sounds great! I like Doc's more than films.. I would've missed this one!

Anyone seen "This Film is Not Yet Rated" ?? ... and "Vernon, Florida" is brilliant.

vernon, florida !!!! yessssss
errol morris is lord

this film is not yet rated is alright, not as good as Sick

it is. it is more reticent, if you can believe that. somehow it talks about the tragedy without pointing the finger too hard. it's courageous while avoiding pedantry. it's of the ilk of "supersize me," but i enjoyed it even more. It's a rare movie, like roger & me, that could play in the midwest and the cities.

djugel, i've seen "this film" that one's pretty funny.

haven't seen "vernon, florida" yet. will do

"then I heard it .... double gobble" classic!!

yeah .. "this film" isn't up there with the greats by any means.. just trying to think of one's that might have gotten by.

Crumb is still my favorite. "You're Gonna Miss Me" is another one you should all see.

Oooh, sounds good, I'm a doc fiend...

I've seen "This Film is Not Yet Rated" and thought it was really good, but "King of Kong" was one of the best ones I've seen recently. It's not really that politically relevant, but I saw it in the theater and everyone was intensely involved, yelling/cheering, and gave a standing ovation to the screen (non "nerds" to boot). It was an odd, but awesome experience...

Oooo .. anyone seen "King of Kong" yet. Really wanna see that too.
my favorite one to turn people onto is "my best fiend"

not many people have seen it and it's sooooooo funny and frightening

crap.. sorry I didn't notice you said that... I gotta see that!!

if you want to see the most depressing movie ever made, see "darwin's nightmare"

it's got it all

AIDS, starvation, environmental collapse, globalization, culture war

king of kong is GREAT!!!!
so well made....and a good story for us nerds

I've seen clips, but couldn't bring myself to watch it in entirety yet...

Another really amazing/depressing doc on the topic of food production is "Our Daily Bread", I pretty much wanted to shoot myself after seeing that...

link

Amazing documentaries that have stuck with em
Crumb (agree w/ djugel)
After life (a quasi documentary - has dramatic acting, but also interviews about people's memories)
The Gleaners and I <- a meditation on scavenging, fucking awesome.

Crumb is beautiful... it's nice to know that someone else shares my hatred for society and love of booty..
