--> hey freak folks,

i am currently redesigning my netlabel (beatismurder.com) and decided to make it cms based.
so far i tried Joomla and Phpwcms, but none of them could really satisfy me.

i don't really know why i didn't like joomla... i just didn't like it. just a feeling.
phpwcms is cool. i managed to make a really cool structure for my website.
but jeeeebus, the documentation is ridiculous. there are like 2 websites that have some info about it. and the only forum a bout phpwcms is obviously for advanced users only.
it took me 5(!) days to understand the basics of this cms. and now i wasted a lot of time and i'm still far away from really getting it.

so, dudes, what's your weapon of choice?
i mean, there are about 300 different cms out there.
any suggestions?

i don't want to make a message board and i don'T want to make a blog. i wanna make a netlabel. any ideas?

thaaaanks mangs.

i've heard good things about ning.com

i think you have to pay to rebrand it though.

i'm thinking about trying typo3, but i heard it's extreeeeemely complicated.
i mean: i'm not dumb. i've been a webdesigner for 6 years now, and i already learned stuff like php and actionscript.
but nevertheless i'm looking for something that's rather easy to set up and customize.

anyone willing to share some typo3 experiences?

ning does not seem to be what i'm looking for.
seems like a template for web2.0 communities or something, right?
thanks anyway.

So I take it you want to stay PHP?

Why not wordpress? or mixedtapes favourite, Expression Engine?

Ive just found the time to pick up on learning RoR again and for me, it would be easier building one in the Rails framework.

yeah, definitely php.
isn't wordpress only for blogs?

argh there are too many to choose from...
i decided to give joomla a second try. but if i don't like it by the end of today, i will ditch it eternally.

Django?
Textpattern?

My friend likes drupal (though I guess it's a little less sex than the newer ones).

ExpressionEngine, ExpressionEngine, ExpressionEngine.

By far the best CMS I've ever used and use it just about exclusively for my own sites as well as a ton of clients now. It's not free, but it's because it's amazing. If you want free...TextPattern or Wordpress are great, but limited.

On a sidenote, I hate Joomla and Drupal.
mt: what do you like most about expression engine (compared to the free solutions)?

Scratch that last remark about cost. There is a free version of ExpressionEngine. It just doesn't have every single module that the personal or commercial license has. But it's well worth it. I highly recommend it and feel free to message me any questions you have about it. I'd be glad to help.

I think you are all just making up silly words.

I like farmlet, dwizzpond and schlackenwickmunden

It's flexibility.

Lets say I have 3 dynamic sections for my website, news section, project section and link section. I create custom fields for each of those sections. For example, lets so for my news section I want title, summary, link, 2 pictures, extended text. I create a new weblog titled news and create under that each of those custom fields. When I create a field I give it a name thumb_01, thumb_02, etc. That name acts like a variable I can place anywhere across my website. ANYWHERE.

I do the same for every other dynamic section. So I am customizing the fields to fit the content and it's very flexible.

That's just one example of why I love it.

Farmlet is ok. depends on the design. if it's a one template site then it'll work great. dwizzpond was just confusing and I couldn't figure out how to customize it to fit my needs.

schlackenwickmunden was great until them merged with schlupeltingo and formed schlupel-schlacken-wicktin-mundingo. Downhill ever since.

Pah, that won't cut it! This is em411 we want 3 examples minimum!

thanks for all the input.
now i'm even more confused...

schlackenwickmunden... lol.
