--> sheesh..

buying condenser mics is hard.. :S much harder than i thought...

im trying to avoid heading into a shop with my bandmate and wadeing thru mic trials... dont have the time, and really.. id like something that would work on both of our voices..

its going to be only a home studio vocal mic, and ideally suit my lower vocals and heidi's quite hi vocals..

we recorded our ep on a friends neumann mic and an avalon preamp.. and i know that anything in my budget wont come close to that.. but something decent would be nice...

heard very good things about the studio projects C1 mic.. but wondering if it will sound good with my low voice

also in the running is the new contender m-audio luna which has been getting very good reviews.. ( although im slightly dubious about m-audio gear )

would really like a blue bluebird mic.. but its kinda pushing the budget..

also looking to get a presonus preamp.. just a cheap single line.. but can start recording with just my presonus firepod preamps..

what do people on here use for vocals? any other options i should consider? ( also in the running was the rode nt-1, but for the price both the luna and C1 seem to smoke it )..

I just bought a Rode NT1A, reasons for this being that the studio at my college uses one and it seems to get really good vocal recordings. Also, i'm young and a student so I was looking for something cheap. I got mine for..£87 with postage used on ebay, with shockmount.

Haven't used it yet but wherever i've looked (reviews/asking people) all i've heard is praise for it.

yeah the rode does sound good..

crazy thing is they are made here in oz.. but retail for 300$ AUD in the cheap shops.. yet i can go and order one from the states and get it for 100 AUD + postage.. wierd..

few people have told me tho if i want a rode to get the nt-2...

I use the very affordable and great sounding MXL 990 condenser and always recommend it for budget studios. It always has great bundle deals with the smaller diaphragm MXL condensers (i have the 993 as well I think).

Rode NTK is pretty good, I used one for t while. It's very crisp and pretty detailed, but definitely lacks warmth. an AT4033 has the warmth, but lacks clarity. Soundelux u195 is one of my favorite slighytly budget mics. It's clear and very detailed but with a bit more warmth. Definitely better than both the NTK and the AT4033.

If you have the opportunity to actually LISTEN to these mics, you should be doing that! I have no way to do that here in town, and it would be totally awesome to be able to.

for those of you who are interested i ended up getting an M-audio Luna which is quite nice, and running it thru either my korg tp-2 or Bluetube pre amps..
