--> I've been entertaining myself with Processing lately, building some pretty basic generative stuff.

The nice thing with Processing is that you get all the basic plumbing for free, such as OpenGL and 2D primitives, FFT processing (via ESS, an external library) etc, yet you can still write normal Java code to interface with the 2D/3D canvas.

The picture is from a sound-reactive "music video" thingy I've written for my latest track. 100MB or so Java applet. See a work in progress version here. Oh, and it uses OpenGL so if your video card doesn't accelerate OpenGL it'll probably eat all CPU in sight.

Please don't kill my server.

Has anyone else used Processing?

Very cool...

I'm in the midst of trying to learn it for similar purposes. I've been playing around with Quartz Composer a bit and want to take it to the next level. I have little experience with text based coding (I used to know a little Flash actionscript many moons ago) so we'll see if I eventually shoot myself.

Awesome! I totally love this sort of musical visualization, and I envy your skills creating it. I wish I had the moxy for it.

Thanks! I could post some code. It's not that complicated, to be honest.

Tres cool, Crabster!

Please post some code - I have been getting into Processing myself lately, so I would be quite interested to see what you came up with!

Thanks!

Since I'm currently procrastinating instead of studying, here's a quick writeup:

that's really cool. i'm learning java, so i hope i can apply some of it to this as i'd like to do what you're doing, crabster, for my live sets. also want to get into blender when the time presents itself. anyway, cheers, thanks for sharing.

yeah i heard of this being used for screensavers a lot. go to hear people are putting it to go use.

I'm studying it a bit at school. Haven't done any complex stuff yet, just exercises like these:

i love the software though.
really nice stuff, great to see some of this stuff, since i've been thinking about it myself, too:

I'm going to keep thunking on it... will probably dive in after I sharpen up my reaktor skills to the level I want them to be at

nice work

the audio--was that all programmed in processing? or did you bring in sound files you made elsewhere?

I am now! WOW DAMN! EFFING NEAT!

yeah man, good stuff. i like processing. i also use context free, scriptographer (for Illustrator) and Flash to do generative stuff...mainly for print...but yeah good one crabster!

Ricemutt: Nice. The audio is pre-recorded, only the video is generated.

you seen this dude crabster? he's a VVVV nut : link

i installed processing today. lets see where it leads

I am very curious about trying to use Processing for creating visual art. Is it capable of really unique stuff, or does it just yield generic looking random stuff?
