--> I'm almost done with all my classwork for my degree, I get done on monday. Cannot wait. Next semester is student teaching, and I can taste the dread of that experience.
Music is kind of in a research phase where I can reconsider my total direction and style as a musician. I would be frustrated, but by now I can see the patterns. I spend a lot of time on research and development, a lot of time listening, then I let that all sit in my brain for awhile. Then I sit down with a guitar and start really producing a lot of work quickly, typically in a summer month. Currently I see my general direction headed towards a weird, spacey version of Lee Hazlewood. But I am probably still a long way out, and the picture still looks fuzzy. As I get closer to the ideas that will shape my next record, I'm sure I'll know more.
This period is always a big test of confidence. I know deep down that there's a damned good chance that I might never get any closer to this picture, and stay at the dreamer stage like a lot of people.
I remain committed to the idea that I don't have to work on music consciously. I insert as many interesting records and ideas as I can, and tell myself to just think about them a little bit. Then one day while driving or something, my brain will have an "event," I'll get the chills, and know that when I sit down to right a song, there'll be on there.
While the ideas are congealing I work on sound design and keep things organized and ready for that day.

Currently listening:
Boney M- Rasputin.
Malibu- Parisian Nights
The Seeds- Can't Get You Outta My Mind
Lee Hazlewood- Come on Home to Me
Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra- You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling

Sweet on finishing classwork!

masters in education majoring in music?

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear
He could preach the bible like a preacher
Full of ecstacy and fire
But he also was the kind of teacher
Women would desire

RA RA RASPUTIN!
Lover of the russian queen

no. BA/BS in education, emphasis in social studies. I'll be a middle school teacher of some variety, hopefully Social Studies.

Beware of visions of the future. Don't look it in the eye until it materializes in front of you. I've found that getting hung up on what you expect to come out can be a source of frustration, and it makes the process of making something into a chore (not that you are doing this - how would I know - just a general observation). That said, I appreciate your 'open' process of input-and-processing (r&d). Lately I've been interested in the opposite approach, kind of counter-intuitive to me, of just starting 'blank', letting anything at all come out, then letting the process of 'fixing and re-fixing' be the guide. Kind of hit and miss, but at least I am getting things done - the holy grail of perfect reproduction can be paralyzing.

I've always been partial to "Steppenwolf" by Boney M
Don't know this Lee Hazlewood, I'll check that out though

Hazlewood was a lot better known for his songwriting credits. It's only a small portion of what Boney M and Hazlewood have that I like- in particular, its the quality of the mixes. And hazlewood always used a direct bass- it sounds so good.
