Apparently the novachord is a polyphonic subtractive synthesizer from 1938, containing no less than 146 vacuum tubes and consuming around 270W.

A fucking beast. I promise I won't complain about the size of my synths anymore.

The site details a restoration project and includes a few soundbites too.

What would James Last do?

thats almost 3amps.. not much juice afterall, but maybe thats alot in 1938?
also, thxforthelink

I'd image thats a lot of heat. But they sound amazing. And yeah, 270W is really pretty damned efficient to run that large of a tube circuit. My computer's PSU runs something like 350W.
But i'll be a large portion of that is running high amperage, and that's what'll kill ya.
