4 solenoids controlled by an arduino that reads midi notes sent by ableton live. this is all very much work in progress, so expect some updates in the next weeks. i'd like to get rid of the arduino and replace it with a cheaper solution like a single micro-controller.

yeah wicked man. seen a similar uni project once. that one had no computer, just some hardware loopnig step sequencer thing and a load of 'tapper things' like yours, that you could place on any objects you liked.
p.s. arduino, yay!

yes, it's not that i invented this idea. it's more about developing it further into an instrument that everybody can build and use. still a long way to go.

out of curiosity, where did you source your solenoids, and how are you getting the correct voltage into them? I want to build a very similar project (ah, who am I kidding, I want to rip you off)...
so far I got some shitty solenoids that would need lots of mechanical help before they would be useful at all... screw you robot country USA!

i bought the solenoids at rs-components. the order number is: 347-652
"Series 44A Small Short Stroke, High Force Solenoid"
the company producing the solenoid is called: BLP COMPONENTS

the voltage is supplied by a wall-wart with 12V. i use a darlington array to switch the solenoids on and off. much cheaper and faster than relays.
