so yesterday i posted a blog that had errors about how the crows were having a shouting contest around my house, bedroom window etc waking me up every morning at sunrise and how i wished someone would loan me there big mean cat to put on my roof to chase them away.. or at least maybe a stuffed cat to mount up there like a scarecrow and then i realized that would just attract all the neighborhood cats to glom it all up w/cat love when they were in heat and then i'd need some anti-cat device (dick cheney in hunting gear?) to keep the cats away etc.
the blog didn't post because one picture was a byte too big or something.. so it goes..
the story has changed. yesterday while drinking my 7th cup of tea i noticed a baby crow on the ground in the back yard. hmm.. it was fully feathered and flopping around a bit but had obvioulsy left the nest before it could fly. shit what to do??? i dont want no crows getting eaten by cats and creating unteathered crow souls haunting my house forever.
so after a few phone calls the audodon society told me that crows finish their development on the ground with the parents protecting and feeding it and will typically leave the nest before they can fly. they also said if i wanted to i could put the baby crow (chic?) back up in the nest if i could reach it. she said this will in no way effect the parent/baby relationship crows have. "its OK to to touch the baby crow.. or if you can't reach the nest you can put it in a basket or something and nail the basket up high on the tree and the parents will take care of it there but if neither of those solutions will work you can just leave it on the ground and the parents will look after as usual".
so that's what i did. got home yesterday the baby crow was gone. sweet i thought.. no dead bird here and the parents are around so maybe they are looking after it and it found a nice cuby hole someplace to be safe and avoid the cats.. great.
this morning around 6-7AM the CAW CAW CAW from various places starts. bah.. wakes me and the lady up. i go outside to see wtf is happening.. a cat goes jumping accross the backyard being chased by a big angry mama crow. whew. later i see the baby crow.. fine as can be and VERY FUCKING LOUDLY CAW CAW CAWING away.. of course now it's moved right below my bedroom window and sounds like a goddamn disco siren being blasted thru a kazooo!!!!.. arrrgghh...
i'm glad the baby crow is so far fine and dandy but i really wish it would learn to fly fast. i dont need no giant raven like tower of london birds hanging out thinking this is caw caw caw central and they can ruin my sleep sleep sleep forever. oh..i'm vexed by crows.
be well my little crow and watch out for those damn cats. they dont want to eat you.. just rip you to shreds and make me clean up the feathers.
can someone come move a crows nest for me? ;)
how long will it take for this crow to fly around on its own? can i put it in a little helmet and remote control plane and send it off like that hamster on the simpsons?
update: i just looked out at the backyard and the babycrow is as big as a big pigeon! thigns is a giant baby bird! i guess it's not a baby.. maybe a teenager? hmm.. i guess my girlfriend and i have become crow godparents.. cat shooo-ers and sleepless codgers all in one day. wish us luck.

i know a family who had a crow as a domestic animal in their house. crows are highly intelligent and able to learn.
you could assimilate the bird and train it to chase away the other wild crows or something

there is this one crow.. he's cannot fly.. broken wing.. he's been hanging around my hood the entire time i've lived here.
don't know how he's still alive.. i imagine he's the "grumpy old man" of the crow community.

Crows are extremely intelligent birds. Maybe you should put your machine drum outside and see if the crow can learn to program beats.

long stories about groups of crows often involve murder.

Their names are spelled weird: heckle and jeckle.
