--> Thank you for your submission to Pump Audio. As you can imagine, we receive thousands of submissions but try our best to review them all promptly. Having received your songs our catalog managers have placed them "on hold."

Submissions are placed "on hold" if they don't fit the immediate needs of our catalog. Below are some of the reasons why your music may have been placed "on hold."

1. Genre demands - Certain styles of music are needed more than others by our clients. This is not to say that we don't accept all kinds of music, just that we need more of some styles than others.

2. Sound quality - Our major broadcast clients require recordings of the highest sound quality.

3. Performance - while Pump Audio does not look for hit songs from our submissions, our clients do require high quality performances regardless of the style or genre.

Please remember that we receive a huge amount of music from all over the world and we have to make daily decisions based on the musical needs of our clients.

Please keep making music and stay in touch with us at Pump Audio!

Thank you for your submission and good luck with all of your musical endeavors!

Man, to think I waited 8 months for this. Oh well.

FUCK THAT!

Wow, what an insulting form letter. Please recognize it as just that... a form letter. You know, most the folk who listen to music sent in really have no taste, or may have just very very different taste and don't have the intelligence to recognize the beauty that is apparent in your work.

If possible, try and get this crap out of your head. It is untrue.

These people really seem to have their priorities wrong. I'm surprised if they've actually gotten any licensing done.

pump audio? the name just about says it all. where do they pump it, i wonder?

Must be "Genre Demands", but it is still bull!

i just got turned down for the first time. Its nothing to worry about. Just keep truckin. DIY is better anyway. fuck those doods.

It would have been a little more helpful if they at least told you which reason was meant for you. A form letter in itself is a bit insulting, but at the same time I understand that if they get thousands of submissions they just can't take the time to respond personally to every one.
I work at an art gallery, and sometimes if there are only 6 'spots' available, it's just a sad necessity that some really great stuff has to get rejected. I dont' think it has any reflection whatsoever on the quality of your work.
Also, if anyone who gets the standard form letter calls in to ask why, we can usually pass on the jury's comments to them - I know the music biz is somewhat different than a non-profit org, but it might be worth getting in touch and asking if there was some specific reason other than volume of submissions. They may just brush you off, but they also might remember your name next time you submit, and give a closer listen?? Just a thought.
Or if you just want to feel better, look at what they are 'pumping' out, and laugh at how bad it is. I don't know anything about this place, but they are probably responding to 'commercial/client demands' - where bad taste is VERY common.

LOL!

who is pump audio?

if i ever start a label, our standard "dear john" letter actually WILL say "sorry. blows."
sorry to hear about it. these get funnier once you've collected ten or so.

man the letters i got from hymen and others were better than that. what assholes. but its the same thing: everyone has more stuff to put out than they know what to do with. self promotion all the way. its tough but possible.

jerk asses

I just listened to a couple of your tracks - guess what? you don't suck. But you know that already. Keep yer chin up. The reason you don't get a personally written letter is becuase Pump Audio care about money more than they care about your feelings. You'd probably still get a bog standard reply even if they wanted to sign you!

thx for the tons of kind words - i wasn't fishing, just sharing the sucky news.

actually, i think it's partly my fault. i've spent the last couple of years chasing 'writing gigs' and wasting my music time that i thought others wanted to hear & not what i really want to make.

so, here's my early new years resolutions
-> in 2008, i will not record a single note for the benefit of anyone else
-> when i do get around to recording, it'll be the massive backlog of songs i've had collecting dust for years
-> i will take no steps to get any of my music licensed for any purposes whatsoever unless approached by someone directly (as if).

it's gonna be my year because i'll just be trying to please myself & no one else - hurray 4 me!
