not even the tazmanian devil asking "wazz up?" can get people to tell me what they're doing. phooey.

Most peeple already kno about me, but:

played 3 shows in december...don't know what's coming up

I'm finishing an album - don't know what i'm going to do it yet

I've been much more productive over the past few weeks than probably ever before (I've made so little music this year), and my friends seem to think it's the best stuff I've done yet. Hopefully I'll also become a more active member of this community again before long, it seems like I've been neglecting it for song long.
Recent blogs: Tipu's Tiger

I recently started actually playing an instrument properly, i've been playing piano all the time, practicing deejaying and drawing comics. I've haven't been much of a musician yet.

had a challenging but very awesome year, got my first real credits in some stuff, steadily plugged away on a few long term projects and didn't really have any time. found a way to funnel my lack of time into doing loads of mental work on some more complicated ideas-those being modular sequencing and algorithmic composition. got a surprise album out of the last stuff-which came quick in a few days off. also started writing the occasional song idea, and have a decent reserve of stuff to be finished.

currently working hard on movie post

next year, i'll have more time, so i'll be able to finish a lot of these ideas and albums. fun! i think i'll also have work on some more high profile stuff, but i don't quite know how that's gonna happen yet.

astroid has been modding his nord g2 so he can have sex with it.

I've been making some lovely minimal techno with my er1-mkII for the past 4 days

I spent the year completing my first album. Did a remix for Charlotte Gainsbourg and finished three new videos. 2008 will bring the release of all of these works, plus at least three more videos. Sometime in the first weeks of January I will be doing a video for a song called Red States, and two live videos for Moon After Berceuse and Regretful. Hopefully in February the site will be completed and I can begin to show some of these things. I also plan to do a bunch of festivals, if they will have me.

Also, recently saw an intereview with the great playwright, David Mament, in which, when asked what advice he would give young writers, he responded: throw away your computers.

My new years resolution will be to surf less and free my mind from the internet's odd rhythms.

i heart fredo.
mament = mamet

and I heart cedar a.v.

what's up with madeofoak and with cedar a.v.?

hmm me, last year i finally finished my ep, sent it to the label in the spring and they're still sitting on it, we'll see what happens. thing is, the person who runs the label is honest to god one of my musical heroes, so just the fact that she liked my demo enough to even offer to put out something is enough. played a few shows this year, but it was nothing compared to the almost 20 shows of 2006. but because i had time i have gotten my set to the point where i really feel like i have the stability vs jamming thing down, and i have ideas for how to make it even more open-ended, so i can really chose to do as much or as little as i want (but i like doing lots).

i moved this year, and that put a serious stop on my musical output (aka recording), although i did do a project in the fall for a collaborative visual/ audio thing that was part of the showcase at the new forms festival. it was really cool. link those tracks were only meant to play live though, so i might try to structure them a bit more for possible release. or not.

i did finish one new track in 2007 (before the move) that i posted here, and there is one more that i have been working on again lately. i just got offered a release on a fairly well known netlabel, they offered me a q1 (jan-march) slot but i can't possibly have anything by then. so my plan for the first part of 2008 is to work on some new stuff for that. and in feb/march i am seriously considering going to europe to do some touring, in the initial stages now. i am also going to work seeing autechre in london into that plan.

2006 was an insane year with shows and i had no chance to catch my breath, this year has been much more about tidying up loose ends and refining. it's all good.

2007 - Nothing Happened
2008 - Nothing will happen.

nice to hear what everyone is up to and looking forward to.

right now i'm in miami for the holidays w/family. just hung out w/some old friends adn drank beers. weesh. after going over a few hours worth of old stories etc it's hard to believe that we are all (almost all) still alive after being so stupid in our youth. so many chances taken and boundaires pushed but we are all still here to talk about it. it's interesting to reflect on. that's what's on my mind right now...

musically.. here's where things are:

started Buried In Time a while back. put out 3 releases that i'm really proud of. the most recent being Gasp's full length.. which is one of my fav records and i listen to it all the time. it's really something special to me. i'm waiting for january to get here so when i get home i can start a new promo push and get that going again and try to gain some traction with the releases because i think they are all stellar. there's also a new one in the works that is a sort of mixit sample fest that was spawned by a couple of hardware (606, 303, 909, FR-revolution + FX) marathon acid sets w/myself and hteah that led to lot's of leftover bits of goodness that were shared among some people who were given total creative freedom to make a track out of.. anyway- that's inevitably going to be the next release on buried in time. so far all the tracks submitted are really impressive and totally different. i'm stoked and can't wait for it to all be together so i can release it.. then there are a handful of things in the works for future relases.

for me.. i haven't really stopped working on tracks and have a bunch of stuff in various styles completed but together they don't make a cohesive album so they will inevtiably be spit out into the world in other ways.. possibly a mix CD (fingers crossed) through some DJ/producer friends on other labels.

in recent weeks i have started a thread though that hopefully continues and leads to an album project which would mean in several months i'll have enough done to release a full length and maybe even an ep by an alias

other than all that gobbly guk i'm hammering away trying to get the name of the label out there and get things rolling to generate some noteriety for the artists involved and just in general start something new to release music that i like to listen to since that's pretty much what it's all about for me.

best wishes for everyone in the coming year and have a safe happy holiday.

Spent this year writing a lot of test tracks, learnt a lot of things and I'm slowly starting to stabilize it down. I played out a bit, mostly at STFUs, but also some weird gigs on the side, like a reggae gig on bass, an ambient gig in a gallery, some complete impro jazz stuff, and lately with the big band I joined 1 month ago.

I feel I learnt quite some things about flow, now I have to learn about deepness and beauty, cause my tracks feel like plastic. I'm writing a minimal techno liveset I'm starting to really like, so I'm getting there. 2007 was also the year I got my first music hardware (the machinedrum), which I spent a lot of time on knowing inside out, and it's starting to really grow on me.

So 2008 will be, in a chronological order:
- taking my techno liveset into the clubs
- finishing my studies
- working on the jazz (big band stuff, and also combo stuff)
- finishing my studies
- playing out with the big band
- finishing my studies
- stfu cologne 2008
- finishing my studies
- an album??
- finishing my studies (you can notice the pattern there)

If the techno liveset works well, I plan to start thinking about playing out in a "commercial" kind of way, approaching clubs, sending out demos, getting paid. Also if that works well, I think I will start to produce "complete" tracks again, on the one hand the music I feel in my heart, which is some kind of nondescript overloaded jazz stuff, and also focused dancefloor tracks, hoping to get the production-side down and getting them released somewhere.
