--> This blog is in response to some comments made on one of the threads here. I don't like TV on the Radio. I don't get why TV on the Radio is so great.

I live in New York. In fact, I live in Brooklyn, the very home of TVOTR. I remember them storming onto the scene, uniting music critics, elitist hipster kids, and regular joes in thinking that the TVOTR phenomenon is the most important thing to happen to rock and roll music since the invention of the electric guitar / distortion / pete townshend / hendrix / nivana / etc.

Now, I'm a person who's always open to having his opinion changed. So I went to see TVOTR live. I even payed. I payed to see a band I disliked with the hope that their live show might change my opinion.

It didn't. They're just bland, plain old rock and roll music. Sure, it might b e well written, but not the genre-busting, world changing music they are often touted as producing. The beatbox guy did an encore of delay pedal-looped beatboxing, and the crowd went nuts, as if he was the first person in the world to ever do that, and it was happening for the first time in that very room.

Someone explain to me why they're so great. Go.

because people are stupid, and will acept this blandness as a revelation if they are told its true.

they have been listening to classic rock and occasional radio hits. they dont know of the cool things going on on the internets and whatnot. they have been waiting for someone to tell them whats cool.

THERE THE MOST UNDERAPPRECIATED BAND IN THE HISTROY OF THE WORLD

what i mean to say is: will someone please keep explaining them to me and having me listen over and over again so i eventually get used to them and buy their album out of a conditioned response?

never heard of them so therefore they must suck

^also true!

they have a cool tittle and black guys so they must be cutting edge.

...okay just checked out a few tracks. they're not terrible... actually pretty good. but i could link to 10 bands that are doing better stuff (imo) that you've never heard of. < that makes me cool.

is it the afro-beard combo that draws the fans in?
we need a cool way to say "i liked this blog" like "SUP" or "POW, BITCH"

I like them quite a bit. Not revolutionary or anything, but a damn fine rock band with an identifiable sound and lots of texture. "Ambulance" and "I Was A Lover" are excellent songs. I can understand people not liking them, but I can't see someone who likes "alternative"/"indie"/experimental"/"progressive"/"whatever" rock not finding anything interesting in their music.

i went and saw them for free and wished i stayed home.

they paid me to stay home, and i still went broke

i just read the title of this blog and knew it must be a reference to some shit band.

because their acapella stuff sounds really beautiful. and I haven't heard doo wop vocals sound so good before.

ambulence is one of me and janette's songs, and I think it's amazing, but the band is extremely hit or miss.

what, next are you gonna tell me that the arcade fire isn't mind blowingly good?
