If you've got a bit to spend, I would recommend the Metric Halo too, or the RME 400/800.
I'm pretty happy with the Edirol FA101, which can be scored pretty cheap these days.

yeah, the creative has always been a good brand for soundcards. i will definitely check it out. any experience with the apogee duet?

came back home with the apogee AND A GIBSON J-45 WTF?

rme, motu or emu
depending on what driver would go along with your OS most
there is also the (m-audio) delta 1010, which has a very high compatabiity rate across many systems
(I have one, worked in every pc, mac ... I owned)
