i bought a diy touchscreen kit from coldfusion on ebay. this can be fitted onto standard, chinese 19 inch lcd screens.
it works beautifully.
the only downside is that software is mostly not designed for this, so i find myself wishing things were a bit different.
in general, using the tip of a finger is refreshingly fast, but too blunt for some work. therefore a pencil eraser is ideal.
one can make fast work of editing samples, editing midi, and changing a sequence in realtime.
not really a performing instrument tho.
in the background can been seen a modified cr8000 and modified tr606 (by Julian of Port23).
i'm trying very hard to get out of linear sequencing and mousepushing, as thse activities grind me to a halt.
happy 2008 em411. i wish for a better world, it is fair to ask for change.

yes mac osx and os9 drivers are available it appears. i haven't tried the apple drivers. the pc drivers are rock solid. i had to reverse some of the wiring between the sensors and usb, that was wierd. but not a huge deal.

about 150 on ebay (from seller "coldfusion").
some issues: it pretty much makes it impossible to close the casing of lcd screen, so looks kind of diy. it needed resoldering,rewiring, so is not wholly idiot proof. no support (probably the seller is not supposed to sell direct to public)

i haven't used it much with drawing. For that I use a tablet pc (work-related).
This wasn't work related, so had to be dirt cheap.
I don't think this would be good for intensive visual work. It doesn't have the precise feel of a tablet pc, and the surface is kind of tacky, making smooth drawing movements wierd. Tablet pc's have a smooth, matte surface that you can glide a pen or even a finger across. This has a glossy surface.
It is fine for pushing things across the screen tho.
Probably would be okay for photoshop as long as you weren't trying to "paint" extensively tho.
