I've not seen "There Will Be Blood" because Daniel Day Lewis always makes me think of Magnum PI with 'roid rage whenever I see him in a mustache, but I just heard a little bit of Johnny Greenwood's soundtrack for the film. No wonder I like Radiohead. He really knows his stuff. I had no clue just how deep that rabbit hole went, but it's obviously worth further investigation.

it's a great film, and a very very bold soundtrack too. You should see it. Definitely one of the most fascinating performances I have ever seen.

personally, i didn't think that the soundtrack worked with the movie. i LIKE the music a lot, but i just felt that it called too much attention to itself. that opening orchestral swell is great, but didn't they use it like four or five times in the film? i thought it was brave to have an atypical score for a film like that, but for me, it just didn't work. as a stand alone piece, yeah, he does some awesome stuff. i thought the soundtrack to the documentary "bodysong" was fantastic. way better than the twbb score.

I agree with you GrapeApe... sorta. Actually I think the usage was really bold and I liked that about it. When you listen to the pieces on their own, however, to me they are a little unoriginal. Sounds like Schnittke, Pendercki, Ligetti... I am totally in awe of his ability to do that, but I think the music is perhaps a tad overhyped a bit.

haven't seen the film, but am very very impressed with what I've heard of the score. The bit in the trailer for the film works to amazing effect, IMO.

also really interesting radiohead video. The dissonance through much of the song is really, really chilling, and contrary to recent posts this is a very effective vocal performance by Yorke, IMO
