I've been going through jitter tutorials forever with the intent of creating some patches that I can use for live video. The problem has always been trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to be able to do visually in a live setting. This morning I was messing around with some objects trying to learn more about jitter geometry and came up with the patch that created this video. For the most part, it's audio reactive, but about half way through the video recording, I started patching in parameters that I could tweak in real time. From about the second half of the video to the end I actually started performing with it. Since this recording I've been building more onto this patch making it more "live". I think I've finally found something that can create the groundwork of a live visual patch.
warning...this file is like 70 mb. As you'll see it's pretty compressed already. I'm currently trying to find ways to make smaller files that retain more detail. The beauty of this setup imho is the microscopic video particles that float in space which are largely unrepresented in this video due to my poor compression methods.

forgot to mention:
the audio track is the autechre remix of "characi" by jim o'rourke. The source video material is a clip my younger brother Jeffrey took with his still frame camera of walking on a path through the woods to a clearing that opens up into a soccer field with a windmill in the background. You can't really tell in this video obviously, but if the color representation was better in this recording you'd be able to see his keen eye for form and gesture.

Downloading it right now. I'm not sure how long your vid is, you're probably already using h264, but if you're not, how about using this encoder?

yeah, I compressed it using h.264. The file is like 6 minutes long so that's part of the problem. Next time I'll make it an .mp4. I think that file size is smaller?

awesome, man. Lots of good stuff going on. I agree with hecanjog, it really starts to pick up about halfway through.

Hey great stuff, yeah and i agree the middle bits were more interesting, probably because of the music and image syncopation.
i'm not sure whether an mp4 would give better quality at a lower file size than a h264, since they're all under the same family of codecs, but i guess it's all down to how good the encoder is.

thanks guys. I agree that this probably should be chopped to the second half only. The video itself isn't particularly riveting to me, but with some edits and practice I think the patch could have some potential. I'd like to be able to break out of the cube a bit and paint with the video in a more free flowing manner, but I'm currently still wrestling with geometry for some of the jitter objects. If anyone does any jitter stuff, I'd love to get in touch to bounce ideas and all that.

very cool, usually i think jitter stuff is boring, but you really pushed it beyond what most people do.
