In and out of music through the years

I've realized that i my attention to music comes and goes in waves. I was a music major in college, i droped out and did nothing with music for a 5 or 6 years. From there i got into djing. I still buy records but really do not play out anywhere so my djing has just become a bedroom dj deal. But djing lead me into production. Which went nowhere. I bought some hardware played with some software but nothing really came of it.
Then i sold off some gear. My mixer, now that the musical muse has got me again i wish i had sold the command station and kept the mixer.
Thoughout all of this I really end up with anything concrete, no songs just money spent and time burned gear lusting and researching on the internet. So I drift out and do nothing musical but i keep aquiring cool musical toys. An digeridoo there an omnichord here. But they sit, mostly unplayed.
My latest facination is chiptunes nanoloop lsdj and all that jazz. The collection of toys i have buit up (casio keyboards and such) lends itself well to chiptunes which adds to the fun. But still i can't help wondering.
Am i wasting my time? my money? As long as i'm having fun that what's important right? It can sometimes become a depressing thought.
But all of that aside i'm now planning on buying more gear to make music with (and sell some that i'm not using).

seriously, there are many many much more costly and pointless hobbies to waste ones time with.
I've got a nanoloop I don't use. Trade?

Well, as long as you're enjoying yourself...I don't see the harm.
I have a drumkit that I occasionally play nowadays, but I sometimes feel guilty that I don't play it more...but that passes - because it's really fun when I do play it.

I think it's 1.3. I should get the sync cable and finish the "pro-sound mod" that adcbicycle started on it. Then I could see myself using it.
I just haven't wanted to spend any money on it. You don't have an extra sync cable lying around, do you?

sir, fun and happyness is the ONLY (loose) reason you should be into this!
if you have a nasty habit of being fickle, then I suggest buying things second hand so your turnaround is good.
ebay-hey-hey.

yeah, I'm with the j_choad, you gotta just do whatever makes you happy. In the end that's all there is. If being unable to commit to something and be dedicated makes you unhappy, I guess you have to examine that--but I know some really great happy people who've spent their lives just wandering around and messing about with different things, and seem to get a lot of profound enjoyment out of it.
p.s.
we shall hang some day, haha ;)
I'm antisocial... and don't like doing anything that takes me away from my drones ;)
