Electronic Music 411 - renoise on linux

I bet it does too, at least at first, but proprietary and pay-for-use software is going to advance the Linux platform a lot more than RMS would probably like to admit. The fact that private interests are finally taking notice of the Linux market is definitely a good thing.

ps: you can use vst plug-ins in audacity, maybe it will be possible to use them in renoise as well. in any case, LADSPA ftw!

yeah, uhh, what are the current linux trackers? goattracker, cheesetracker, aldrin...milky is probably the most stable, high-quality option and milky only does XMs which means no filters & only mono samples. Renoise goes so far beyond any tracker yet, especially what's on Linux now. I wonder how many people tracking today got started BECAUSE of Renoise (& probably Vsnares)? maybe even half.

rice: supposedly the problem with running Renoise on an Eee is not an issue with the processor but rather with the display which is smaller than Renoise's minimum resolution.

anyhow Renoise rules but I'm taking a break as recently tracking is a bit claustrophobic for me. when I get excited about it again, well, I can finally get some use out of that dual boot

you should check out the latest aldrin svn, it pretty much blows renoise clear out of the water, it now comes with granular and fm synths and is fairly stable and useable, i made quite a handful of tracks with it.

i'm fully aware of wine based ways to run vsts on linux that doesnt mean that renoise will support them. also i think renoise will just get ignored by linux community anyway for being proprietary software.

well i've been running it on linux for some time now and i can say that it's very stable, with only a few crashes in the beta which happened with large cut/paste operations (i have no swap partition). hasn't happened yet in 1.9.1 final. anyway, i like it cuz it works with all my other jack audio apps. this is the first time i've used a tracker to power exterior softsynths and it's great.
