Damn, that's a nice space. Makes mine look like a toilet.

Wow! amazing workspace.
Love it

i love how ergonomic it is. everything seems to be in the perfect spot.

Thats a hot looking rack hes got there! the one that looks like a robot with an 808 for a head.

...wheres the close-up of the modular!? I feel cheated!

For those who avoid Pitchfork.com, here's an article where Tobias's work flow is discussed:

I found the technique discussed here to be quite inspiring...

damn. i need to live in a bigger house. my basement studio has turned out to be cramped and depressing.

Why do people avoid pitchfork? I read a random paragraph and was thoroughly confused.
As for the close up, I generally ask the guys to take pictures of their entire space and whatever they're particularly proud of. I think he's more proud of the little Jesus on top of his bay than his modular. Hah.

cramped and depressing? christ dude, if you didn't have every awesome synth i've ever dreamed of owning, it might not be so cramped. depression in those surroundings is just uncalled for.
kidding. how do you like your modcan seq? i just sold my mc-4 for a more hands on/live use sequencer. is it worth the 3k+ or do you think i should settle for something like the maq 16/3?

anyways, i'm lovin the t.a. interviews. very inspiring.

Dunno. Pitchfork does seem to get bashed a lot though. I think it's just an easy target. Not sure why you were confused about the paragraph you read...

Oh, and I'm also loving the interviews you guys do! Keep it up!

ha. well, not the machines. they are, of course, great. but it turns out the room they are in really sucks. i'm in my 5th studio space and this one is by far the worst. i just don't want to spend any time down there. my last studio was in my in-laws basement. i loved going down there just to get away from them. before that it was a second bedroom of our apartment with high ceilings and hardwood floors. now its a small basement with a 6' 3" ceiling. dark, cold in the winter, and cramped. not nearly what i expected it to be when i moved in.

as the tobias freund article points out, studio environment is important. good light, space and layout. mine is lacking all of those.

modcan sequencer is kick ass. $1500, not $3K. i like it very much.

I went ahead and read the entire article and felt like there was a lot of filler. And I DO have some sort of impatience with beating around the bush, though that is entirely my own fault.

Eh, Sherburne's writing is what it is (which says nothing, I know). Mainly, I tend to agree with his musical taste, sand I think he's a decent writer, so I enjoy reading his stuff. He's also started making tracks of his own, so his articles have recently risen in the production tidbit quotient.
