hey everyone. greetings from springfield, missouri (rock mecca of the known universe). just thought i'd check in and give you a little update on the long winded tour i'm on, which is just about halfway done right now.
things have been going really well on the road so far. we've just finished the east coast leg of the tour and are now headed south to austin for sxsw (where we'll play 10 shows in 4 days), then out to the west coast. the shows have been great so far - a real step up from our last couple of tours, which is both welcome and relieving. the new record seems to be getting mostly positive press (with the notable exception of pitchfork, whom i continiue to despise on principle), so hopefully that will continiue. there have only been a couple of setbacks so far: tristan fractured his shin during an ill-advised attempt at skateboarding in a half pipe, i had some issues with my bass amp that were solved only by upgrading to an svt-II (money, money, money), my sprint bill came in at about $150 more than i expected, and (of course) we all have gotten sick. despite all that, however, it's been amazing. every tour we've ever gone on has been better than the one before it, and it's nice to see our work paying off a bit. yes, i'm knocking on wood as i type this.
fredo: i'm not sure if you got my emmail, but i'm sorry we missed one another in new york. hopefully we'll meet soon anyway.

in case you're curious, the photo above is me, after shaving my beard into what has been lovingly described as "the van buren" on my birthday a few days ago. enjoy.

the mens room reminds me of a couple of weeks ago. this girl was having a going away party and me and my friends went to a gay bar at her request. it was tense using the bathroom. apparently for some reason they had mirrors next to all the urinals. it was interesting trying to conceal my stuff. it wasn't scary just creepy how all the dudes were smiling and kept asking how i was doing.
