i grew up in miami. WMC is as good a time as any to be there. it's mostly 4/4 stuff but there are some cool things usually happening. try to go to ps14. it's off the beach in the design district (biscayne blvd outside downtown). usually the schematic people and their affiliations have something going on there. some of the afternoon pool parties are supposed to be nice but all the mainstream events can be pretty bloated. the stuff that happens really late or in the morning hours can be pretty special if its in the right venue. some of the smaller spaces are cool. i don't know what any of them are called anymore.
if you need a break from the scene and want some local flavor. check out the Deuce. its one of the only dive bars on south beach. it's just off washington around 13th i think. easy to find.
oh, and off lincoln road there is a laundromat-bar that is 24 hrs and has dj's. something that would be a huge draw in portland.. anyway- last time i was in miami we walked in there and that had some dubstep dj from london who was great. he varied from the formula quite a bit.
beware the big sushi restaurant on lincoln that has DJ's. it's a fucking scene like no other. hilarious and retarded.
