so upon the recommendation of persons on this site i decided to check out the Jungulator as a way of playing loops live

the interface is very simple comprising of 6 'pods'. each of which can have a loop of audio (in wav or aiff) loaded into it. this is then time stretched and cut up linearly into 8, 16, 32, 64 or 128 clips.
there is a 'random' slider just below the slider that determines how many clips the audio will be cut into, changing this betwen 0% and 100% will change the amount that the clip jumps around and (as the manual tries to get across) by 'randomising' your samples you can make potentially infinite and non-linear performances from few samples

my experiences with using the program have been mostly very positive. it works pretty much as i had wanted. drop in a sample, mute, solo, volume up and down. as all my loops have been made at the same bpm there is little need for the computer to spend time pitch/time shifting the samples and the cpu load is very low (im working on a note book intended not for word processing and net surfing so this is a major plus)

it was a bit disconcerting when first starting the program up as it actually takes a minute to load (no matter your computer) as it has to load something to do with max/msp first (which it wass created in)

the effects it has a limited. a resonant filter and an echo are the onboard effects and you have the option to load in one other vst, though i have not been able to get this function to work!?! oh well. echo is all i need (for making dubstep)

there also seems to be a problem with the program making a small 'click' noise between the different 'slices' of a loop (remember they get 'cut' into slices) which is annoying when i want just a pad playing for a breakdown, but it sounds kinda glitchy so i can live with it. though this is possibly because im just using onboard sound (of a shitty laptop) so this may be fixed when i get a soundcard

other than that, i havent taken any advantage of the other features and personally would prefer there werent any, i spend all my time making these loops so no effects or processing really needs to happen at the performance end.

i give it a 6/8 for my purposes
(would prefer it also have midi and vsti capabilities)
=)

cool review, thanks

thanks =) it would be more intensive, but i barely use any of the options the program provides

and rereading that review, it looks like english is my second language, it isnt! i was just sleepy

is this better or different or more suitable for livestuff than ableton? how is this different?

it is much much simpler as you can see by the pictures on the page (link at top)

i would definately say it is 'worse' because it has far fewer features, can only load one vst effect etc.
but for me i prefer it because it doesnt look like a mixing desk (no vertical lines of anything)

i went out with a girl who went out with the bloke who made this.
fact fans.
