--> went to see autechre in philadelphia and DC last night and the night before, much better show in DC. massonix was good in DC, much better than he was in philly. but! oh man!

i stayed with my friend, charles, in philly. i stayed up most of the night playing his vcs3, my evolver and... AND his buchla 200. oh my... i don't think anything can touch that other than a bigger buchla. i will post my twelve minute mid-'seventies-tangerine-dream-esque wank fest. and pics when i get home. does someone make a buchla-stlye capacitance touch keyboard like the 217 (http://www.buchla.com/historical/b200/217-keyboard.html)? that thing is pretty ideal. and i hade fun clocking the 246 sequencer with the 242 programmable pulser.

you total bastard. jealous ;-0

massonix was 110% terrible in toronto. Worst thing ive see in years.

vcs3s are fun. I had access to one at college for a while. Made in cornwall i think.

massonix playing poorly in philly, i got the feeling, was due to alcohol and his live instruments being mixed a bit too loud. in DC, on the other hand, he played quite well, however the live instruments were still mixed a bit loud. plus i really like LFO, so there is a bit of sentiment (don't let anyone know that i can occasionally be sentimental).

i had wanted to play with a VCS3 for a while, but to be honest, i was really not that impressed by it - but do take into account the fact that it was not in great condition. i had it running through the evolver and i felt like it really didn't loose much. the buchla, however, when ran through the evolver really suffered. it really deadend the sound. and it was extremely playable. i felt the vcs3 would drive me more toward making or proccessing sounds while the buchla would drive me more toward making music. i gess what i mean by that is i felt the vcs3 would be more novelty decoration in its musical use for me (again, perhaps in part do to the limitation of no keyboard or sequencer). but the joystick on the vcs3 is godly! i would love something comparable to that in eurorack format (not that i have a eurorack modular, but that is definitly the way i am leaning).

Same in Montreal.

LFO? I thought Massonix is Graham Massey of 808 State.

I would have to agree though, his set in Portland was lam-o-rific.

oh yeah, 808 state, don't know why i typed lfo

buchla intoxication?

un411 embargo against the 808 failed state?

I thought the guy that played before them in Chicago was pretty poor. He would play his guitar really loud over drum loops, maybe I just didn't get it or maybe he was trying to make autechre look good.
